Have A Gift Thrifty Holiday!

Join us on Mon., 11/19, from

6:30-7:45pm, as the Nassau Free Library presents, “Have a Gift Thrifty Holiday”. If you find your holidays overwhelming and a large drain on your budget, join Theresa Mayhew from Cornell Cooperative Extension in an informational workshop that will provide strategies to help get more joy out of the holiday by keeping stress low and savings high!

Introduction to QiGong at Troy Public Library 

QiGong is an ancient Chinese art that empowers you to help yourself by activating your inner resources for self-healing and reducing stress through breathing techniques, postures and mindful focus. The Troy Public Library will present Diana Wells, certified QiGong teacher, in a series of 4 introductory classes to be held Monday evenings, November 26, December 3, December 10 & December 23, at 6:00pm. Classes are free, but space is limited so registration is required.

The Great American Read – Exploring Books and their Writers through Film

The TV series, The Great American Read has peaked reader’s interest in the 100 titles nominated as contestants for America’s favorite book. Following the conclusion of the show, join us at the Troy Public Library for an in-depth exploration of several books from the Great American Read’s top 100 list. Each month in this series, we will pick one book to celebrate. We will watch a documentary or film on the author, one film adaptation of the book, and cap it off with a book discussion led by retired Siena College Professor, Tom Bulger. All books will be available for at the checkout desk during the month in which they will be discussed.

For the month of November, we will be focusing on The Great Gatsby. Film screenings and book discussion meeting times are as follows:

November 17th at 2:00 pm: The Great Gatsby (2013 film adaptation, 2 hr, 23 min) Rated PG-13.

November 24th at 2:00 pm: Discussion with Tom Bulger

Ancestry.com Tutorials at North Greenbush Public Library

Science Fiction & Fantasy Book Club: November Meeting

Join us at the Troy Public Library for the next meeting of the Science Fiction & Fantasy Book club on November 27th at the Day meeting, 11:30 am-12:30 pm or the Evening meeting 6:00 – 7:00 pm. This month we will be reading: The Magicians by Lev Grossman Harboring secret preoccupations with a magical land he read about in a childhood fantasy series, Quentin Coldwater is unexpectedly admitted into an exclusive college of magic and rigorously educated in modern sorcery.
