7/20, 1p: 3rd Thursday Matinee – A Man Called Otto. This is a story about Otto Anderson (Tom Hanks), a grumpy widower whose only joy comes from criticizing and judging his exasperated neighbors. When a lively young family moves in next door, he meets his match in quick-witted and very pregnant Marisol, leading to an unexpected friendship that will turn his world upside down. Register.

7/27, 6p: Outdoor Music Concert – Standard Time Quartet featuring vocalist Cathy Olsen, Josh Greenberg on sax, Tom Giaquinto on drums, and Diane Geddes on keyboard playing a variety of songs, from 50s and 60s pop/rock. Register.

8/1, 6p: Lyme Disease Awareness & Prevention – Learn about increasing Lyme disease in the USA, tick facts, how to protect yourself and your family. Be prepared for what to do if bitten by a tick. We will discuss other common tick-borne illnesses, stages of Lyme disease, testing and treatment modalities. Register.

8/3, 6p: Outdoor Concert with Onkor featuring Karen Kraker on Drums, Percussion, and Vocals, Michael Richmond on Bass Guitar and Vocals, and Joe Gorman on Acoustic and Electric Guitars and Vocals. Register.

North Chatham Free Library (NCFL) Announces Its Popular “Cocktails in the Garden”

Enjoy signature cocktails, captivating conversation, and an array of scrumptious hors d’oeuvres at the “Cocktails in the Garden” fundraiser hosted by the North Chatham Free Library on Saturday, August 19, from 5 to 8 P.M. in the library garden. The cost per person is $50 and reservations are required by Sunday, August 12 due to limited space. North Greenbush Public Library Update

Have you heard the buzz? July is a tribute to “BEE”ing a community! Our “Bee” mascot is on the move! 

BEE curious and join our library scavenger hunt anytime on Friday, July 14; find the bees hiding in the library, then bring the completed scavenger hunt list to the desk for a prize.

BEE Squishy! Join us in the Children’s Room Monday, July 17, at 1 PM, to make bumble bee slime! For children ages 5 and above.

BEE a reader! Join our All Together Now summer reading challenge, now through August 19, and win prizes! Children, teens and adults are all welcome. Storytime on Tuesday, July 18, at 11 AM, will be visited by SouthPaw, the mascot of the TriCity Valley Cats. Listen as SouthPaw shares stories, take some photos and do a fun craft.

Crafternoons continue in the Children’s Room Thursday, between 3-5 PM.

Looking for something different to read? Pick up a copy of “An Immense World” by Ed Yong, then join our Virtual Book Club via Zoom on Tuesday, July 25th at 6:30 PM for a lively discussion. Call the library at 518-283-0303 for the Zoom link.

All Together Now at the SLTL

Save the Date! The Sand Lake Town Library Friends invite you to an event on Saturday, August 12th at the library. The Summer Reading theme is “All Together Now,” so we’ll not only celebrate kids who participated in the library’s summer reading program, but we’ll have activities and fun for kids of all ages! (By the way, It’s not too late for kids to sign up to track their reading and win prizes. Stop by the library at 8428 Miller Hill Road–it’s above the Town Hall–to find out more.)

Teddy Bear Sleepover at the Library. Drop off your stuffed & plush friends by 4pm on Friday, July 14 for a sleepover. We’ll take pictures of their adventures and have a slide show ready to watch on Saturday with juice, cookies and a craft. Please pick up stuffies by 2pm Saturday.

Upcoming Events at Poestenkill Library

Sound the horns! Our first Mini Musicians program is coming up on July 17th at 11:00 AM! During this program, best suited for toddlers and preschool aged children, your littlest musicians will use their voices, bodies, & instruments to sing, play, create, and explore the world of music. Mini Musicians is held on the 3rd Monday of each month at 11:00 AM and is led by Ms. Kate. Space is limited. Registration is strongly recommended. Teens and adults are invited to the library for a relaxing evening at our monthly diamond art program on Wednesday, 7/19 at 6:00 PM. This month we’re making hummingbird sun catchers. No diamond art experience is required. These projects are suitable for beginners or experienced diamond art enthusiasts. Registration is required as space and supplies are limited. Please register by calling the library at 518-283-3721 or add your name to the sign up sheet the next time you’re in. Please note, there are only a few seats left for this program.

On Thursday, 7/20, from 4:00 – 6:00 PM we will be hosting our first ever Bubble Bonanza! Bubbles, bubbles, and more bubbles will be the focus of this fun outdoor program for all ages. Big bubbles, little bubbles, bouncing bubbles… we’ll have them all, plus bubble arts and crafts, and more! No registration required. Rain date 7/27.

Budding artists are invited to the library on Tuesday, 7/25 at 3:00 PM for the first of our Watercolor World Skyline program series. Participants will listen to a story about the featured location and then use watercolors to paint a background for a skyline silhouette. For this first installment, our story and artwork will feature Paris, France. This program is open to all ages, but is best suited for ages 7+. Registration is not required but would be greatly appreciated! You can give us a call at 518-283-3721 to register, or add your name to the sign up sheet in the library.

Children’s & Adult Summer Reading begins June 26, 2023 and runs through August 14, 2023. Join this fun adventure and complete unique reading missions, all while attending special summer events and programs. Both programs have fun prizes for those that complete their goals! 

Chair Yoga – Mon, Jul 17, 1:00 p.m (Lansingburgh) A class that is focused on a gentler style of hatha yoga practice. It is performed using a chair for balance and support. RR

Adult Color & Unwind – Mon, Jul 17, 6:00 p.m. (Main) Spend an evening coloring pictures drawn by author Libby Rose. She will also be reading snippets from her coloring book The Cowbatross and other Very Real Creatures. Snacks provided. RR

More than a Pretty Face: Pollock, Picasso, & Cubism – Tues, Jul 18, 3:00 p.m. (Zoom) Why would a woman have a blue face or two noses? Discover the meaning behind Picasso’s portraits and his influence on Pollock. Then create a unique Cubist face that expresses emotion using cut paper collage. Have supplies on hand: paper for your project, assorted colored papers to cut, glue and scissors, paint supplies, or drawing supplies. RR

Big Truck Day! Wed, Jul 19, 1:00 p.m. (Lansingburgh) Climb into and on Fire trucks and other large equipment vehicles and meet those that drive them. Ages 5-12.

Shorts out Loud – Thurs, Jul 20, 6:00 p.m. (Lansingburgh) Come listen to music by Caity Gallagher and hear a short story read aloud. 

Learn to Mend Clothes – Fri, Jul 21, 2:00 p.m. (Main) We are pleased to be working with Sarah, owner of the Troy Sew Shop, who will offer instruction and guidance on all your mending questions. Please bring any pieces of clothing you own that need repairs, or just come for the talk. RR

EG Community Library: Public Hearing Proposed 2024 Budget

The East Greenbush Community Library will be holding a public hearing for the proposed 2024 budget on Tuesday, July 18th at 6:30 p.m. in the library. The public is invited to attend. For more information go to https://eglibrary.org/about/board/. 

A second proposal on the ballot will be the election of one five-year position on the Library’s Board of Trustees. East Greenbush registered voters who wish to be considered as candidates for the Board of Trustees can pick up an information packet at the library on July 19th. The deadline for returning nominating petitions and candidate biography is 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 20th.

The election to determine the budget and trustee will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. in the library. Registered voters in the Town of East Greenbush are eligible to vote. The library is located at 10 Community Way, East Greenbush, NY 12061. The phone number is 518-477-7476.
