Annual Library Election and Budget Vote on September 15

East Greenbush — East Greenbush Community Library Special Legislative District Annual Election will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 from 9 A.M. to 9 P.M. at the library. As a public library district, the Library Board of Trustees has the sole fiduciary responsibility to ensure that the library remains viable. The COVID-19 crisis has impacted all non-tax sources of revenue, which made this an especially difficult budget year. The Board has adopted a proposed budget which stretches library resources to maintain core library services and minimize the impact on the East Greenbush Taxpayer.

A public hearing regarding the 2021 Preliminary Budget (focused on stretching library resources to maintain core services and minimize the impact on the East Greenbush taxpayer) was held on August 4th. The proposed budget, which has been adopted by the Library Board of Trustees will be presented to the voters at the Annual Library Election and Budget Vote on September 15, is a reduction of 3.2% which is in response to a total income loss of $68,967. The proposed budget is $2,067,581, which is 3.2% decrease and is below the NYS Property Tax Cap.

The total taxable value of the East Greenbush Library Special Legislative District has increased approximately 1.4%. This will result in taxes remaining essentially flat. The proposed levy from East Greenbush this year is $1,722,454. The estimated cost will be $0.90 per assessed $1,000 property value, which is $0.01 less than in 2020. Cost to the taxpayer with a house assessed at $200,000 would be approximately $180. Copies of the budget are available on East Greenbush Community Library’s website, at https://eglibrary.org/about/board/.

A second proposal on the ballot is the election of two positions on the Library’s Board of Trustees for five-year terms, beginning January 1, 2021. Petitions for candidacy were accepted until 8/16/2020. The candidates are Camille Engel, Lewis Dubuque, Charlie Pensabene and Michael Thoma. When available, full biographies will be available at https://eglibrary.org/about/board/.

A Virtual Meet the Candidates Night is scheduled for Thursday, September 3rd at 7pm. Visit https://events.eglibrary.org  to learn more or email: director@nulleglibrary.org. The election is held at the Library, located at 10 Community Way. Any voter registered to vote in East Greenbush general elections may vote in the library election.
