Shorts Out Loud! At The Troy Public Library

The Troy Public Library is pleased to present “Shorts Out Loud!” consisting of fifteen minutes of LIVE acoustic music followed by a short story read out loud, refreshments and discussion, on Thursday, July 25th at 6:30PM at the Main Library.

Comic Mime Comes to the North Chatham Free Library

Come join us to see Robert Rivest’s fabulous show “Space: First Mime on the Moon” on Thursday, July 25. The show will run from 12pm-2pm with nonstop laughs for all ages. Rivest uses his hilarious imagination to celebrate reading, libraries, space, and summer fun for this multigenerational entertainment. Bring your kids, parents, grandparents and next-door neighbors! It’s sure to be a great time. Fiddle Concert with George Wilson at the Troy Public Library

The Troy Public Library is pleased to announce a Fiddle concert to be held Wednesday, July 31st at 6:00PM at the Troy Public Library’s Main location.

A talented, multi-instrumentalist and singer, George Wilson’s repertoire samples a wide variety of traditional and folk styles. As a fiddler, he has over 5– tunes for dancing and listening – tunes from New England, Quebec, Cape Breton, Scotland, Ireland, and Shetland. His dynamic fiddling has been popular with contra dancers and concert-goers since the late 1970’s.

This FREE concert is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by The Arts Center of the Capital Region.

Week 4 – North Chatham Free Library’s Summer Program!

Come join us for our fourth week of fun and activities! Cook Around the World on July 29 with the Garden Club of Kinderhook and make delicious dishes using fruits, vegetables and herbs grown in gardens outside the United States! On July 30 our Binocular Astronomy with Mud Creek Environmental will meet at 8 pm for a short lecture, then it’s off into the night to observe the night stars. Outer Space Sculpture takes the stage on July 31, where we’ll create a unique monument to outer space. Coming up on August 8 we have the STARLAB miSci Planetarium coming to the Tri-Village Fire Company, Station # 1 on 111 Co Rd 13. They’ll be doing five shows from 10 am to 2:30 pm; Seasonal Stargazers, Native American Constellations, Calendar Constellations, Star Clock, and Reasons for the Seasons. On August 13 we’ll have an Over-the-Moon Animal Adventure at 2 pm. Interact with nocturnal critters of all shapes and sizes! Troy Public Library Evening Book Discussion

The TPL’s Evening Book Group will be discussing Natural Causes: An Epidemic of Wellness, the Certainty of Dying, and Killing Ourselves to Live Longer by Barbara Ehrenreich on Monday, August 5th at 6:30 PM.

Our monthly book group meets to discuss a wide range of book selections. New members are always welcomed.  Monthly participation is not necessary, come for the books that interest you!

August events at Rensselaer Public Library

It’s a Universe of Stories for Summer Reading. Come in any time we are open and tell us about what you are reading to get prizes. Ages 2-12. Runs June 29 to August 17.

Pre-K Storytime- Tuesdays at 11 am.  Ages 2-6, no sign-up needed. Siblings welcome.

Teen Anime Club- Thursdays 5-7 PM. Ages 13-18. Watch anime, discuss manga and pop culture, and hang out with your friends.

Space Lab Wednesdays at 2 PM Ages 5-12 Create and explore in our maker lab. Please sign up for individual sessions so we will know what supplies we need. 8/7- Robots & 8/14- Planets

Galaxy Craft- Saturday August 3 at 1 PM.  Create an out-of-this world craft! Ages 6-17.

Friends of the Rensselaer Library

The Friends will be providing baked goods on Wednesdays at Music behind the North End Firehouse.  All members and anyone who would like to support the library are asked to bake, cookies, brownies, cup cakes or something similar.  Please drop off your items around 5:30 pm at our table, music starts at 6 pm.  All proceeds go to promote programs at the library during the year.

Registration for the summer reading program was held on June 29th but parents can still register their child for “A Universe of Stories”.  This program is designed to keep children reading during the summer months and improve their reading skills, there will be prizes.

Sept. 14th — Our first annual fundraiser “Sipping and Sampling” from 5-9 pm at City View Terrace above Partition St. Wine and Liquor.

Greenbush Garden Club Awards Grants

Each year the Greenbush Garden Club awards grant to local schools or community organizations for educational programs and/or community beautification projects, ideally targeted to kids.

This year the Club awarded grants to the Robert C Parker school for a ground cherry garden and to the Green Meadow School for a rock garden.  We wish them every success with these projects.

Money for the grants and the Club’s Garden Therapy program at Van Renesselear Manor is raised at our plant sale which is held in May of each year.

New members are always welcome. The Club meets at the East Greenbush Library.  For the months of September, October and November of this year we will meet on the 2nd Tuesday of the month.  We hope to see you then.
