Friends of The Rensselaer Library
The Friends met on April 17th and discussed their upcoming events and fundraisers. The next meeting of the Friends will be May 16th at 6:30pm. New members are always welcome; it is a wonderful way to improve the lives of our young and not so young people of the city, so volunteer today.

“Hannaford Helps” Reusable Bag Program to benefit library
The North Greenbush Public Library will be the beneficiary of the April “Hannaford Helps” program at the Wynantskill store (40 Main Avenue). Hannaford will donate $1 for each “Because You Care” bag sold during the month. The bags are large and sturdy, with comfortable handles and capacity to carry gallon milk containers and other goodies. Be sure to select the bags with the special red $1 hang tags!

Fine Free Fridays Announced at Stephentown Memorial Library
Do you have library books or movies that you’ve had out for a long time and haven’t brought them back because of those pesky late fees? Well, Fine Free Fridays are for you!! In addition to cleaning out winter’s dirt and grime, it’s time to put your financial house in order! The good news is that is doesn’t need to take all day or weekend to spruce things up. There’s plenty you can do in five, 15- and 30-minute increments that can help you tidy up your finances in a jiffy! Items to be targeted include what’s physically in your home (think file cabinets or piles of paper), what’s on your computer and what’s in your wallet. A home spring cleaning checklist will also be shared.

Yoga Program –Troy Public Library
The Troy Public Library’s Lansingburgh Branch in conjunction with the Troy YMCA, will offer Yoga classes on Mondays, April 1st – May 20th, at 5:30PM. This is an all-level yoga class that will invigorate your body and reduce stress. You will experience traditional yoga poses, stretching, breathing and relaxation techniques which will improve your flexibility, balance, strength and overall wellness. Please bring your own mat.

Dessert of the Month Raffle – Only 50 Tickets Will Be Sold!
Don’t miss your chance to purchase one or more of only 50 tickets to win one of three delicious prizes. First prize is one full-size homemade dessert every month for a year! Second prize is a loaf of homemade bread and a jar of local honey, and third prize is one full-size homemade dessert!
Tickets are only $20 each, and sales will start April 1st at the library desk during library hours. Proceeds will support the many important projects of the Friends of the Poestenkill Library.
This year’s offerings include such delicacies as Derby Pie, Kahlua Cheesecake, Lemon Bars, Sour Cream Almond Marble Chocolate Cake, and a Platter of Holiday Cookies.
The winner does not need to be present for the raffle drawing which will be the exciting conclusion of Spring Market Day on Saturday, May 4th, 2019 at 1pm.
The first prize winner will pick up a dessert at the library on the 3rd Saturday of each month from May 2019 through April 2020. Second prize will be available during library hours starting May 4, and third prize is available during library hours on May 11.

Adirondack Lumber Camp Songs
Join us Sunday, April 28th, at 2:00 pm for this musical performance featuring the historic songs of lumberjacks in the 1800’s logging camps of the Adirondack Mountains. The program also includes interesting narrative about this charming (and tough!) work era in upstate New York. Performed and presented by Folk Artists Cosby Gibson and Tom Staudle.

Spring Market Day in Poestenkill
The Friends of the Poestenkill Library invite you to Spring Market Day on the Library lawn from 9 to 1 on Saturday, May 4. The rain date is Sunday, May 5. Our sales will include used books, baked goods, and plants, as well as grilled hotdogs and chili for lunch. Browse our beautiful gift basket raffle and buy tickets for your favorites. In addition, we are raffling off a handmade quilt and matching pillow, which are displayed at the library until the drawing at Market Day. You may also buy tickets for our second annual dessert of the month raffle at the Library and at Market Day, when we will choose the winning ticket from only 50 to be sold. Book lovers can fill one of our roomy purple tote bags for $5 a bag or bring their own bags. Market Day is always a neighborly event and we look forward to having you there.
