AP Sports From the Chief by Eric Schuman 12.06.18

This week brought a full slate of action for Averill Park sports! The AP boys’ basketball team had a big week to begin their regular season. On 11/28, they took down South Glens Falls 90-60 behind a huge 33-point effort from Zach Price. Avery Pascucci also had 10 points in the win. The Warriors followed this win on 11/30 by ousting Ballston Spa 51-44. AP finished the game on a 16-2 comeback run.  Pascucci led the way with 17 points and Price recorded 12 more for the Warriors. AP will next take on Albany on 12/7.

Girls’ basketball defeated Ballston Spa 61-51 on 11/30. Kelsey Wood scored 27 points and EmmaLee Morgan had 13 of her own in the victory. Up next for AP is Albany on 12/7.

The Capital District Jets hockey team took on the Storm, another merged team from Guilderland, Mohonasen, Schalmont, Scotia-Glenville, and Voorheesville on 11/30. The Jets fell 4-3 in a tight match that saw its end after an overtime goal in the final seconds. AP senior Tristan Shelhamer scored twice in the loss. On 12/1, the Jets fell to Albany Academy 7-1. AP freshman Kyle Millington assisted the lone goal for the Jets.

The wrestling team fell to Shen 48-26 on 11/28. On 11/30 and 12/1, AP competed in the Clyde Cole tournament. Andrew Lee, Dom Paradise, Sean Malenfant, Mason Lumbra, and Xavier Graham all placed fourth in the tournament.
