AVERILL PARK – Hello Warrior fans. I am excited to report AP spring sports which are officially underway.
The baseball team opened their season with a huge 25-5 win at Scotia on 5/6. The boys moved to 2-0 on 5/7 with a 14-3 win against Schenectady. Junior Alex Yash got the win on the mound for AP. Senior Ben Ferlito had 3 RBI’s and 2 singles, Junior Aidan McCue had a single and a triple, and Senior Jared Lee singled and doubled in the win. The boys team fell to Columbia 0-15 on 5/8. They look forward to turning it around against Albany on 5/14.
The softball team won their season opener against Schenectady on 5/7. The girls split a double header with Columbia on 5/8, winning the league game 7-2 and falling in the non league game 5-6. Taylor Schoonmaker got the win for the softball team while Mckenzie Swinson, Ava Faragon, and Maise Dawson had 2 RBI’s each in the win. The softball team will travel to Albany in their next game on 5/14.
The girls lacrosse team started off the season strong with a 15-14 win over Colonie on 5/4. Thanks to a game winning goal from senior Julia Foster with 40 seconds remaining. Foster totaled 6 goals, leading the girls to victory while seniors Julia Gelder and Sophia Stern added 3 and 4 goals respectfully. Ellie Garrison had 9 saves. The lacrosse team fell in a close one to Columbia on 5/7 with a 9-10 final score. Julia Foster scored 4 goals along with 3 from Julia Gelder and 2 from Mia Tessitore. Ellie Garrison had 6 saves in goal. The girls lacrosse team will take on Bethlehem on 5/13 in their next game.
The boys lacrosse team fell 5-9 on 5/4 in their debut game against Colonie. Luke Hempel and Kyle Church each scored twice and Ethan Jamison added a goal in the losing effort. The lacrosse team lost to Columbia on 5/8 with a 2-18 final score. Luke Hempel and Ethan Jamison scored in the loss. The boys team will travel to Shenendehowa for their next game on 5/18.
The boys tennis team lost their season opener to Niskayuna on 5/6 with a 3-6 final score. August Johnson and the doubles teams Joey Richter & Thomas Nero and Nate Bourgault & Kyle Millington won for the boys team. The tennis team will travel to Albany on 5/14 for their next match.
The boys track & field team fell 59-121 in their first meet against Columbia on 5/4. The girls track & field team defeated Columbia 90-78 on 5/5. Both track teams will travel to Guilderland for their next meet on 5/15.
