It has been an exciting week in sports for Averill Park. The girls’ soccer team punched their ticket into the regionals with a 2-0 win against Burnt Hills on 10/26. After a scoreless first half, junior Syd Haskin found her twin sister Jess on a corner to break the game open. Shortly after, Syd would score off a free kick from Jess to secure the sectional championship for AP. Prior to the finals, AP was forced to beat Ballston Spa on 10/22. This game also saw the Warriors winning by a two-goal margin in which junior striker Brigid Clark would score and assist senior Micayla Slattery. AP will next play on 11/3 in the regional finals.

AP’s successful football season was brought to an end on 10/26 following a 52-18 loss against Queensbury in the sectional semifinals. Junior quarterback Anthony Childrose threw and ran for touchdowns in the defeat. Carl Nitz and Joe Milanese each added touchdowns as well.

Girls’ volleyball fell short of Ballston Spa in five sets 27-25(AP), 25-19, 25-14(AP), 25-13, 25-20 on 10/22. Jackie Borland and Marissa Nagel each recorded 11 kills in the loss. Borland and Emma Burdick also had 6 blocks for the Warriors. AP received the four seed in sectionals but fell to Mohonasen on 10/25 in another five-set match. Scores were 25-17(AP), 25-18, 25-12, 25-14(AP), 25-17. Jackie Borland recorded 16 kills and 3 blocks in the defeat. Emma Crawley had 42 assists and Kelsey Wood registered 6 kills and 3 aces.
I will be back next week with updates on girl’s soccer’s road to the state finals. Go Warriors!
