Author/Illustrator Logan Kline Thursday, March 30 at 6pm presents his award winning picture book Finding Fire to teens and adults interested in the process of making a children’s picture book.

Sand Lake Spelling Bee – Adults, find a partner and get practicing for the Sand Lake Spelling Bee on March 31 at 7pm. Details can be found on the Friends page of our website: sandlaketownlibrary.org/friends/; winners progress to the Upper Hudson Library System Spell-Off on Sunday, April 30! 

Reception and Open Sew with the Capital District Modern Quilt Guild, April 1, 10 – 2. See their amazing display of mini-quilt book covers on display through April 1. Also on display, art by Pat Carley whose reception will be April 22, 12 – 2pm.

LEGO Tuesdays, 3:30 – 6pm. Drop in, bring a friend, build! We have lots of LEGOs to design with.

Finding Fire Teen and Adult Program by local author Logan S. Kline

Logan S. Kline, local author and illustrator of “Finding Fire” is excited to present his award-winning picture book to teens and adults interested in the process of making a children’s picture book at the Sand Lake Town Library on March 30 at 6:00 PM. 

As Logan presents the process of making “Finding Fire,” he will share his original illustrations, dummy books, publisher’s proofs, and more. Character design, the importance of page turn, and the challenges of the revision process will also be explored. Bridge Club – Fri., 3/24, 10:30am – Come play bridge with us! Geared toward beginners and players who need a refresher.

T-e-a-m up for the SLTL Spelling Bee

The Sand Lake Town Library Friends are buzzing with spelling excitement! If you love word games, join the fun on Friday, March 31st at 7:00pm at the Sand Lake Center for the Arts. 

We are challenging local boards, businesses, clubs, community workers, friends, politicians, restaurants, teams and other groups to compete in this local round of the Great UHLS Spell-Off! Teams are made up of 2 people and the Bee will have both a written and a spoken portion. 

You can sign up at www.sandlaketownlibrary.org or in-person at the library (8428 Miller Hill Road). Winners will go on to compete at the Upper Hudson Spell-Off on April 30th. Email sltlfriends@nullgmail.com with questions. Don’t worry, you don’t need to be an a-p-i-a-r-i-s-t to participate!

Chair Yoga – Mon, Mar 20, 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. (Lansingburgh) Join us every Monday for Chair Yoga, performed using a chair for balance and support. Focus will be on yogic breath work and relaxation. Please wear loose/comfortable clothing and bring your yoga mat (because it gives participants more traction). RR

Lego Brick Builders – Mon., Mar 20, 3:30-4:30 p.m. (Lansingburgh) Join us for some lightly structured Lego fun; build off a theme or get creative! Legos provided. For ages 5 and up. Children under 7 must have a caregiver present at all times.

Adult Color & Unwind Evening – Mon., Mar 20, 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. (Main) Come color with us at the main library. All materials (including hot cider and snacks) will be provided. Listen to relaxing music, and enjoy a short-story read aloud by our hosting librarian. RR

Tween/Teen Craft Night – Tues, Mar 21, 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. (Main) Join us for our monthly Tween Craft Night! Bring only yourself and your crafty mind as we make new crafts each month. For youth ages 11-17.

Poetry Workshop: “The Creative Fire of Folklore” with Susan Comninos – Sat, Mar 25 & Apr 1, 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. (Main) Join the library for a two-week weekend workshop with published poet Susan Comninos. Comninos will discuss and employ techniques for incorporating elements of your family or community’s folklore into identity-based poems that can function as your own “origin stories.” RR

Strange History at Rensselaer Public Library

Thursday, March 23 at 6 PM. Strange History from along the Erie Canal with Schoharie Crossing. 

Explore the intriguing stories that feature murder, mayhem, arson, accidents and more in the history of the Erie Canal and Fort Hunter. For adults, families welcome. Berkshire Sampler with Author Kevin O’Hara

To honor St. Patrick’s Day, author Kevin O’Hara will present “A Berkshire Sampler,” reading selected short stories at the North Chatham Free Library on Sunday, March 19 at 3 pm.
