Monday, 8/8, 11:00 – Ocean Themed Bingo. This event is perfect for elementary aged children, but all ages are welcome. Small prizes will be awarded to all winners. No registration required.
Wednesday, 8/10, 3:30 – 5:30 – Teen Beach Book Club and Social Circle. Come hang out with friends, relax outside in comfy beach chairs, and play lawn games. No registration required.
Thursday, 8/11, 6:30 – Teen Advisory Group. All interested teens are welcome to attend the Teen Advisory Group meeting. Peanut-free snacks and refreshments provided. TAG’s mission is to expand and promote young adult services at Poestenkill Library through teen engagement, cooperation, and partnership.
Saturday, 8/13, 11”00 – Family Tie Dye Day. Bring your own garment to dye. We’ll also have bubbles, lawn game, face painting, a fundraiser raffle, and Kona Ice will be on hand selling shaved ice to help keep everyone cool! Rain date to be determined if necessary. Got a “Minute to Win It”? If you’re ten years old+, head over to the library Monday, August 8, for the Ocean edition of “Minute to Win It.” The fun starts at 2:30 PM on the lawn outside the library entrance with extraordinary ocean related games! Younger patrons can join Ms. Donna on Tuesday, August 9, for Outdoor Storytime, at 11 AM.
If you’re between the ages of 10 and 12 years come to the inaugural meeting of our new Tween Book Club on Thursday, August 11, at 5:30 PM, and join the discussion of “Counting by 7s” by Holly Sloan, then do some crafting and enjoy a snack! Books are available at the circulation desk.
Are you up for suspense, comedy, and murder? Pick up a copy of “The Thursday Murder Club” by Richard Osman at the circulation desk and join our in-person book club meeting on Wednesday, Aug 24 at 6:30 PM. Prepare for Medicare (Virtual Program)
Will you be retiring or turning 65 in 2022? Join us for this virtual event on Wednesday, August 10, 6:00 pm. The Troy Public Library will be hosting Jennifer Lenihan of Jennifer4Seniors for this informative program. Get all the information you need to smoothly transition from individual or employer health coverage to Medicare. We will also be discussing the fundamentals of Original Medicare, the difference between Medicare Advantage plans vs. Medicare Supplements, Part D drug coverage and NY State Epic program.

Short Story Cafe (Virtual Discussion Group)
Join us for Troy Public Library’s Short Story Café, meeting Wednesdays, September 28th –November 2nd, 6:30- 8pm. Author David Sylvester is our host for this six-week informal discussion of the short story form that examines how writers handle structural elements such as plot, character, and theme in their writing.
Each week we will read and discuss two (sometimes three) stories by well-known (and
some lesser-known!) masters of the form. No writing experience is necessary, but this is a writer-friendly discussion. All materials will be available in advance at the front desk and should be read before the discussions.
Mr. Sylvester is the author of two collections of short stories, I Would Tell You If I Could (2020) and Still Life (2022).
This is a virtual program and will be conducted via zoom.

Troy Public Library Evening Book Discussion
The Troy Public Library’s Evening Book Group will be meeting on Monday, September 12th, at 6:30pm. We will be discussing Christy Lefteri’s “The Beekeeper of Aleppo.” Copies of the book will be available at the checkout desk throughout the month of August.
Our monthly book group meets to discuss a wide range of book selections. New members are always welcomed. Monthly participation is not necessary, come for the books that interest you! This will be a hybrid meeting, participants may choose to attend either in-person, or through Zoom.

Sustenance and Style: 17th Century Foodways in the Hudson River Valley
Join us at the Troy Public Library, on Monday, August 29th at 6:00pm For this history talk presented by Crailo and Schuyler Mansion State Historic Sites.
The Dutch arrived on Manhattan and the Hudson Valley very early in the 17th century. Here they found some familiar foods, but many were entirely new to the Dutch palate and grew in a landscape vastly different from the one they left in Europe. Learn how colonization changed Dutch dining habits – both in the foods available and in the way these foods were prepared and consumed. Additional insight into Native American and African dining experiences will be included as well.

Round Table Art Group
The East Greenbush Community Library will host a mixed media art show of the Round Table Art Group for the entire month of August 2022.
The show will display a range of mixed-media pieces including paintings, photographs, travel journals and paper and needle crafts.
The Round Table Art Group includes artists from around the Capital District. Member experience ranges from years to decades of making art. Some members are formally trained while others are self-taught.
The show at the East Greenbush Community Library, 10 Community Way, East Greenbush, NY 12061 will be open for viewing during Library hours.
