EAST GREENBUSH – Friends Mini Book Sale in the library is available year-round and is filled with books for all ages! Shelves are restocked often. Adult/Teen book sale case is in the main library next to the public computers and kid’s books are near the Children’s room entrance.

Music Concert: Singer/Songwriter Phil Teumim – Dec. 12th, 2:30pm (register). Join us for a wonderful afternoon of music with singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Phil Teumim! Phil’s music is influenced by folk, rock, blues, Celtic, and other genres. His songs are based on personal experiences, family stories, social commentary, and world affairs, ranging from serious to sentimental, from sarcastic to silly, from world peace to seasickness.
Cooking: Virtual Hands-On Cooking with Felisha Chandler of CCE – Dec. 16th, 6p (register). Felisha makes cooking easy. Join us via Zoom to make some tasty, fun and healthy recipes. You will need a computer, laptop, or tablet to see and participate in this class. Families welcome!

It’s Hard to Believe It’s Been 20 Years!
SAND LAKE – 20 years ago this month, the first Harry Potter movie hit the big screen and the Sand Lake Town Library Friends remember that time. We have Harry Potter items on display at the library. For a small donation, you’ll get a ticket and be entered to win items including: a Gryffindor banner, a magazine, hardcover books (including a Harry Potter cookbook), a lap desk, a Hogwarts t-shirt or a butterbeer mug! From now until December 16th, put your own tickets in the bag for the item(s) you’re interested in. You can also share your memories of seeing the Harry Potter movies or reading any of the books with the SLTL Friends. Did you dress up in costume to see one of the movies or go to a midnight showing? Did you (or your kids) stay up late reading? Maybe you dressed up for Halloween as one of the characters. The Dogs of Chernobyl: 35 Years later, A Story of Hope and Resilience With Stephen Quandt
TROY – Join us at the on Monday, November 29th at 6:00pm for a Troy Public Library virtual event.
35 years after the nuclear accident Stephen Quant went to Chernobyl to participate in a spay/neuter and research campaign for the dogs that were descended from the pets left behind after the nuclear plant disaster of 1986. With many personally shot photos and videos, Stephen tells his story of meeting the inhabitants of the mostly abandoned town of Chernobyl City, the totally abandoned city of Pripyat and the dogs that were encountered. Stephen Quandt, most recently the Feline Behavior Coordinator for the Animal Care Centers of NYC (nycacc.org) and of the ASPCA.org has worked in animal welfare since 2002 and has created this webinar based on his experiences in the Exclusion Zone around the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

The Art of Cozy: Food, Holistic Strategies, and Seasonal Tips for a Cozier Life (VIRTUAL EVENT)
TROY – Join us on Friday, Dec. 3, at 3:30 pm, the Troy Public Library will be hosting Instructor, Vanessa Young. Embrace the season in a uniquely cozy way with practical tips to support comfort and happiness at home. We will explore cooking ideas, home décor approaches, and lifestyle strategies that create a warm, joy-filled environment filled with simple pleasures. This class is grounded in cultural approaches to coziness that apply to all of our lives, particularly as we seek new ways to enjoy time at home and celebrate togetherness.
Vanessa Young is a cooking instructor, writer, and educator known for her artful approach to food and wellness topics and her focus on seasonal meals. With her artistic sensibility and kitchen wisdom, she helps home chefs become more versatile in their approach to food, reigniting their passion for cooking through private and community classes. As the founder of Thirsty Radish (www.thirstyradish.com), she shares recipes and inspires a creative approach to life in and out of the kitchen. This program is free and open to the public. “Human” Music and Film Event
TROY – Join us at the on Saturday, Dec. 11, 3:00pm at the Troy Public Library for this live music and film event. “Human” is a film accompanied by music and poetry. The film is composed of a series of vignettes, each inspired by a unique aspect of being human. The length of the film is 45 mins, and afterward there will be optional space for any questions or discussion. Bobby Kendall is a musician/filmmaker living in Schenectady, NY with his wife and two daughters. After obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from Skidmore College and a Master’s Degree in Jazz Studies from Purchase College, he has been pursuing music and film in the capital region for over a decade. In the Jazz idiom, he has been fortunate enough to share the stage with greats such as Jimmy Cobb, Louis Hayes, Ray Anderson, Mark Vinci, Ralph LaLama, Cyrille-Aimee, Matt Simons, Giacomo Smith, Glen Zaleski, and many more. Since 2016, he has been a member of the Adjunct Faculty at Schenectady County Community College as a bass instructor. Two of his previous films, accompanied by live, original scores are: “When An Alien Robot Crash-Lands In Troy, NY” (2015), and “Dreams” (2019).
