Guided Meditation at The Troy Public Library

TROY – The Troy Public Library will offer Meditation Classes on Wednesdays through June 30th at 6:30PM.

Learn a surprisingly simple yet powerful practice that can help you reduce stress, get recharged, and possibly get you “blissed-out” while seated comfortably in a chair. Led by Stress Management Coach Michael Fuselli, with over 35 years of meditation teaching and practice experience. Beginners are always welcome. Registration is required. This program will be presented using Zoom. Joining the presentation will require the installation of the Zoom client on your computer (microphone and speakers required for audio, camera for video) or the Zoom app on your mobile device. Book Seller New Summer Hours

TROY – The Book Seller will be open on Saturdays from 10-1 and Wednesdays from 4-6. We offer gently used books of all types, plus CDs.

The Book Seller is a project of the Friends of the Troy Public Library. All proceeds go to programs and materials at the library. Plus we underwrite infrastructure improvements, both at Main and the Lansingburgh Branch. Decoding the Mysteries of Cats, or Why Cats Do What They Do

TROY – Ever wonder watch your cat do something crazy and wonder what they could be thinking? Monday, June 21st, at 6:00 pm, Feline Behaviorist, Stephen Quandt, most recently the Feline Behavior Coordinator for the Animal Care Centers of NYC (nycacc.org) and of the ASPCA.org will be speaking at this feline behavior webinar for the public that explains cat behavior from the perspective of the evolutionary and adaptive forces that help shape their lives.

There will be a Q&A at the end where you can ask general behavior questions or questions that pertain to your own feline friend!

Understanding Shakespeare – Titus Andronicus

TROY – Join the Troy Public Library on Wednesdays, July 7th – August 4th from 6:30PM – 7:30PM for our Understanding Shakespeare workshop.

This will be a five-session program on how to understand Shakespeare’s plays. We will start our discussion with Act 1 of Shakespeare’s tragedy “Titus Andronicus.” Then in the following four weeks we will discuss the play one act at a time. This program will allow the participants to put the play in a variety of contexts, such as its relationship to his other works and to the modern existential world. Tom Bulger, Shakespeare Scholar and retired professor from Siena College will lead this workshop.

Summer at Rensselaer Public Library

RENSSELAER – The Tails and Tales reading club will run from June 19 to August 14th at the Rensselaer Public Library. Children ages 4-12 can participate in two ways- online and in person, sharing what they have read for prizes and prize drawing chances. Kids can come in to the library to report reading during all our open hours. The Library will have take-home crafts, a stuffed animal sleepover, scavenger hunt and other activities. East Greenbush Community Library

EAST GREENBUSH – Open: Mon, 9-4 pm; Tue/Thu/Fri 10-6pm; Wed 10-7 pm; Sat 10-4pm; Building closed Sundays; Virtual library is always open! Get updates at 518-477-7476 or eglibrary.org. Masks are still required when inside the building, when using the drive-thru, and outdoors if you are not able to socially distance yourself from others.

News from the Friends of the Rensselaer Library

RENSSELAER – A member from the Friends will be at the Monday Concerts at Riverside Park to sign children up for the 2021 summer reading program “Tails and Tales” which runs from June 19-August 14, The program is open to children ages 4-13.  This program keeps children engaged in reading over the summer months.  We will be selling goodies and have information about how to become a member of the Friends and how to obtain a library card.  Don’t forget the library has passes to the Slater, Ft. Crailo, Albany History & Art and the Clark Museum.  

We will be at the Wednesday concerts  July 7, 14, 21 and 28th. at the Northend Firehouse selling goodies.

Sand Lake Town Library Board Meeting, Book Sale & More

SAND LAKE – SLTLibrary Board of Trustees will meet Thursday, June 17 at 6:45pm. The location will be posted on the library’s website the day of the meeting.

On Saturday, June 26 visit the annual SLTLibrary Book Sale between 10am – 2pm. Also, kids can sign up that day for the summer reading program, get their reading bags, and participate in a brief activity. If you miss sign-up on the 26th, you can still sign up either online or at the library during the following days.

Museum passes are coming in for the summer: currently we have MASS MoCA, The Clark, and the USS Slater, as well as the Empire Pass which allows one vehicle entrance to most NYS Parks and Dept. of Environmental Conservation Facilities.

The SLTLibrary Book Club will meet the first Wednesday of the month, July 7, at 7pm to discuss “The Giver of Stars” by Jojo Moyes.
