Guided Meditation at The Troy Public Library
TROY – The Troy Public Library will offer Meditation Classes on Wednesdays through June 30th at 6:30PM.
Learn a surprisingly simple yet powerful practice that can help you reduce stress, get recharged, and possibly get you “blissed-out” while seated comfortably in a chair. Led by Stress Management Coach Michael Fuselli, with over 35 years of meditation teaching and practice experience. Beginners are always welcome. Registration is required. This program will be presented using Zoom. Joining the presentation will require the installation of the Zoom client on your computer (microphone and speakers required for audio, camera for video) or the Zoom app on your mobile device. Brunswick Community Library Garden Day
BRUNSWICK – We are so happy to be able to gather as a community again! The Friends of the Brunswick Library will be hosting our annual Garden Day on Saturday, June 5th, 9:00 to 1:00 on the lawn of the library. All proceeds go towards supporting the library and their wonderful programs.
As always, we rely on contributions of plants and baked goods from members of the community to sell on Saturday morning. It is a good excuse to get out in the garden for a good cause! There will be a book and tag sale as well as wonderful raffles. Stewarts will be scooping ice cream and tickets for our Pig Pit Barbecue are available at the Library.

Adult Evening Book Group Meeting
TROY – The Troy Public Library’s Evening Book Group will be discussing Zadie Smith’s Grand Union: Stories on Monday, June 7th at 6:30 PM.
Our monthly book group meets to discuss a wide range of book selections. New members are always welcomed. Monthly participation is not necessary, come for the books that interest you! This meeting will be conducted via Zoom.

Charles Darwin A Life in Science 1809 – 1882
TROY – On Wednesday, June 9th at 6:30PM, P. Thomas Carroll will present for The Troy Public Library a program on Charles Darwin. In 1975, Carroll became the very first paid employee of the Charles Darwin Correspondence Project, traveling to Cambridge, England that summer to help launch it. He is an expert on Darwin and Darwin’s letters and the original Assistant Editor of the Darwin Correspondence Project
Charles Darwin, one of the most significant scientists of all time, is also one of the most misunderstood. It is not true that he discovered evolution. It is not true that he was the naturalist aboard the H.M.S. Beagle. It is not even true that he started out as a biologist. Contrary to decades of scholarship that argued otherwise, it is not true that he ever had a substantive correspondence with Karl Marx. Contrary to popular belief, it is not true that he delayed publishing On the Origin of Species for twenty years because he feared the religious implications of his findings. In fact, he considered that book to be a mere abstract that he threw together at the last minute. This is just the beginning of a whole catalog of misunderstandings about Darwin. P. Thomas Carroll will set the record straight in this illustrated lecture that puts Darwin’s entire life in proper context.

Why Garden with Native Plants?
TROY – Rensselaer County Master Gardener Betsy Kauffman will be presenting a workshop entitled Why Garden with Native Plants? on Thursday, June 10th at 12noon, for the Troy Public Library.
Her “Why Garden with Native Plants?” talk will focus on the ecological services that your garden will provide when you transition from exotic to native plants. It will include how to start, how to choose the best plants, and how you can share your results.

Lego & Puzzle Sale
NASSAU – Big Legos & Jigsaw puzzles Sale! The Friends of the Nassau Free Library invite you to join us on June 12, 2021 for a special sale of gently used jigsaw puzzles and Legos. This event will be held on the front lawn of the Nassau Free Library, 18 Church Street, Nassau, NY, and the same day as the Village Wide Garage Sale, also on June 12th. The sale will begin at 9:00 – (until?) 1:00. items will be cleaned and sanitized as much as possible. In addition, raffle tickets for our in beautiful Winter Upstate quilt will be available
At this time we welcome donations of GENTLY used puzzles and Legos. These may be brought to the Nassau Free Library during regular hours or deposited in the large marked bins on the front porch. Please help us by donating only puzzles and Legos in good condition. As always we very much appreciate the contributions of our community. Thank YOU!
Sand Lake Library Celebrates Asian-American Culture
SAND LAKE – In recognition of Asian-American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, the Sand Lake Town Library has a new display featuring many unique items from various countries. The library also has added numerous new Asian-themed books to its children’s and adult collections, which will continue on an ongoing basis. This initiative is in keeping with the Upper Hudson Library System’s commitment to “reflect and equitably serve all people.”
You’re invited to visit the library, to read, explore, and learn more about Asian-American and Pacific Islander culture.
With easing of COVID restrictions and the end of the school year approaching, now is a great time to “come home” to your community library. The Sand Lake Town Library recently has extended its hours to Monday – Thursday 11 – 8, Friday 11 – 3, and Saturday 10 – 2.
While there you can also check out a museum pass (3-day loan) for a visit to the USS Slater, MASS MoCA, or The Clark.

NASSAU – The Nassau Free Library will be open to the public Monday-Friday, 12pm-6pm and Saturdays 10am-12pm. Appointments are no longer necessary for entrance into the library. Parking Lot Pickup service will still be available by calling the library when you get to the parking lot. Masks are required inside the building.

Advance sign-up is preferred; due to COVID 19, attendance is limited, and walk-ins may be turned away. Sign up for walk-in performers begins at 12:30 pm. Performers should be prepared for a 15-20 minute set.
Current NYS COVID 19 rules are expected to be followed by the performer and audience. The minimum performance age is 12. Please bring your own chair. Refreshments will not be available but feel free to bring a beverage or picnic lunch.
Please be aware that this is running concurrently with The Village of Nassau Village Wide Garage Sale. Expect heavy foot and auto traffic.
