The Book Seller Extended Hours
TROY – The Book Seller will now be open on Saturdays from 10 to 4 at the Lansingburgh Library. We offer gently used books of all types, plus CDs. and a “new” collection of lite reading and romance novels.
The Book Seller is a project of the Friends of the Troy Public Library. All proceeds go to programs and materials at the library. Plus we underwrite infrastructure improvements, both at Main and the Lansingburgh Branch. Stunning Succulents
TROY – Master Gardener and Interior Designer Denise Maurer will be presenting a workshop entitled Stunning Succulents on Monday, May 10th at 6:30PM, for the Troy Public Library.
You’ve got to love succulents. Give them plenty of sun, and water occasionally, and they will reward you with show stopping textures, colors and offspring. Learn how easy it is to incorporate them into your home- and landscapes. Buying and growing tips will be included along with plenty of inspiration to create succulent dish gardens and vertical mosaics.

Jigsaw Puzzle Sale to Benefit Poestenkill Library
POESTENKILL – The Friends of the Poestenkill Library are having another huge jigsaw puzzle sale to re-stock your collection! We will offer many dozens of good condition used puzzles, on the lawn of the Poestenkill Library, on Saturday, May 15 (rain date Sunday, May 16). Hours are 9 – noon. The library is at 9 Plank Road, Poestenkill 12140. Proceeds benefit the Library. Masks and social distancing will be required to protect against coronavirus. Please be prepared to wait in line to approach the tables of puzzles if there is a crowd. Hand sanitizer will be provided. Prices are $5 for 1000-piece puzzles and $3 for fewer than 1000 pieces. Our inventory has grown steadily since our last sale in the fall, so come to choose from great brand name puzzles like White Mountain, Wysocki, and Hometown. Understanding Shakespeare – Othello
TROY – Join the Troy Public Library on Thursdays, May 20th – June 17th from 6:30PM – 7:30PM for our Understanding Shakespeare workshop.
This will be a five-session program on how to understand Shakespeare’s plays. We will start our discussion with Act 1 of Shakespeare’s tragedy “Othello.” Then in the following four weeks we will discuss the play one act at a time. This program will allow the participants to put the play in a variety of contexts, such as its relationship to his other works and to the modern existential world. Tom Bulger, Shakespeare Scholar and retired professor from Siena College will lead this workshop.

Sand Lake Town Library Appreciates its Volunteers!
SAND LAKE – “Volunteers don’t get paid, not because they’re worthless, but because they’re priceless.” (Sherry Anderson). The Sand Lake Town Library wants to recognize its priceless volunteers who range in age from their teens to their 70’s. Reliable, resilient and resourceful is how our town librarian describes them. When you request a book from the library, it is often these volunteers who find it for you. Besides this, they work making the garden planters welcoming and attractive, help with the summer library fair and summer book programs, and even teach classes, such as knitting. If you see one of these priceless people at the market or the library, you might want to join us, the Board of Sand Lake Town Library Trustees, in thanking them. SAND LAKE – There are still opportunities to participate in our Upper Hudson Library System’s online tech series. Trainer Nate Heyer will lead Introduction to Microsoft Excel on Thursday, May 13 at 7pm. Learn how to navigate the Excel interface, enter and format data, perform simple calculations, and create tables to sort data in this beginner’s class. Intro to Windows 10 will be on May 27, 7pm and Polling, Quizzing, Signups & More with Google Forms on June 10, 7pm. Sessions will be held online via GoToMeeting. Also, we have wi-fi hot spots available for 14-day loan. Wi-fi hotspots allow you to connect your mobile enabled devices (laptop, smartphones, tablets,) to the Internet. The hotspot is portable so you can connect your device almost wherever you go – home, the park, in the car, etc. Pick-up and drop-off at Sand lake Town Library only – these cannot be requested.

Library Community Helps Sews Quilt Blankets for Kids in Need
EAST GREENBUSH – When library patron, Syma Lapides, reached out to the East Greenbush Community Library to suggest participation in Project Linus we couldn’t anticipate how strongly our community would respond to this effort. It was overwhelming! Over 40 registrants picked up their kits of precut fabric and instructions to sew individual blocks. We received enough blocks to create 6 or 7 quilts. Some sewers came back with enough to make at least 2 child-size quilts. We even received a finished quilt and a full quilt top. Library staff, Jody Squadere and Marcia Rossetti, used their artistic skills to create beautiful designs by arranging the blocks for the quilts. In March 2021, Syma Lapides, patron and Project Linus volunteer began assembling the first of many quilts from the completed blocks received. Library Board Treasurer, Lynne Oudekerk, volunteered her skills by creating a crib-sized quilt top. Four quilts will be on display at the library in September. Almost all participants expressed interest in volunteering directly with the local chapter of Project Linus. Many were so appreciative to have the opportunity to help as this one grandmother of three explains. “Thank you for the opportunity to help. It was a great teaching tool to teach my 3 grandchildren (ages 13, 9 and 3) about community service, math, and empathy.” The first mission of Project Linus is to “Provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers.” Learn more at https://projectlinus.org/. Nassau Free Library News
NASSAU – The Nassau Free Library will be open to the public Monday-Friday, 12pm-6pm. Appointments are no longer necessary for entrance into the library. Parking Lot Pickup service will still be available by calling the library when you get to the parking lot. We are open Saturdays 10am-12pm for pickup only. Masks are required inside the building.
