The Book Seller Extended Hours
TROY – The Book Seller will now be open on Saturdays from 10 to 4 at the Lansingburgh Library. We offer gently used books of all types, plus CDs. We have just received a “new” collection of lite reading and romance novels. The Book Seller is a project of the Friends of the Troy Public Library. All proceeds go to programs and materials at the library. Plus we underwrite infrastructure improvements, both at Main and the Lansingburgh Branch. Poestenkill Library Director’s Upcoming Retirement is Announced
POESTENKILL – The Poestenkill Library Board of Trustees is both happy and sad to announce the upcoming retirement of Margie Morris, director of the library, since October 1999. At the March meeting of the board of trustees, Margie voiced her intention to retire by the end of this year. During her tenure at the library, first as a volunteer and then director, Margie has been instrumental in the establishment and administration of library services in our community. Not surprisingly, Margie brought positive energy and a commitment to best practices to the challenges of providing safe library services during the pandemic. Under her guidance, the library has flourished as a vital community resource while retaining the charm of a welcoming, rural library.
In a letter to the board, Margie wrote (in part): “You all know I love this library and have enjoyed it immensely over the past 29 years I have been a part of it…There are so many, many people in my life who are there because I met them through the library. I can’t imagine not knowing them and I have always been so grateful for the opportunity to have them in my life…I am going to miss having the key to the biggest treasure box of books, but I still have a library card!”
A committee has been formed and is in the preliminary phase of the search for the next director of Poestenkill Library. The search process is expected to take several months.
The board of trustees is grateful for Margie’s dedication to the Poestenkill Library community for 29 years and wish her the best in retirement.
Stunning Succulents
TROY – Master Gardener and Interior Designer Denise Maurer will be presenting a workshop entitled Stunning Succulents on Monday, May 10th at 6:30PM, for the Troy Public Library.
You’ve got to love succulents. Give them plenty of sun, and water occasionally, and they will reward you with show stopping textures, colors and offspring. Learn how easy it is to incorporate them into your home- and landscapes. Buying and growing tips will be included along with plenty of inspiration to create succulent dish gardens and vertical mosaics.

Jigsaw Puzzle Sale to Benefit Poestenkill Library
POESTENKILL – The Friends of the Poestenkill Library are having another huge jigsaw puzzle sale to re-stock your collection! We will offer many dozens of good condition used puzzles, on the lawn of the Poestenkill Library, on Saturday, May 15 (rain date Sunday, May 16). Hours are 9 – noon. The library is at 9 Plank Road, Poestenkill 12140. Proceeds benefit the Library. Masks and social distancing will be required to protect against coronavirus. Please be prepared to wait in line to approach the tables of puzzles if there is a crowd. Hand sanitizer will be provided. Prices are $5 for 1000-piece puzzles and $3 for fewer than 1000 pieces. Our inventory has grown steadily since our last sale in the fall, so come to choose from great brand name puzzles like White Mountain, Wysocki, and Hometown. Sand Lake Town Library Appreciates its Volunteers!
SAND LAKE – “Volunteers don’t get paid, not because they’re worthless, but because they’re priceless.” (Sherry Anderson). The Sand Lake Town Library wants to recognize its priceless volunteers who range in age from their teens to their 70’s. Reliable, resilient and resourceful is how our town librarian describes them. When you request a book from the library, it is often these volunteers who find it for you. Besides this, they work making the garden planters welcoming and attractive, help with the summer library fair and summer book programs, and even teach classes, such as knitting. If you see one of these priceless people at the market or the library, you might want to join us, the Board of Sand Lake Town Library Trustees, in thanking them. Introduction to Microsoft Excel, offered on Thursday, May 13 at 7pm, is one of several online tech courses provided by the Upper Hudson Library System and trainer Nate Heyer. Remaining sessions include Intro to Windows 10 on May 27 and Polling, Quizzing, Signups & More with Google Forms on June 10. Sessions will be held online via GoToMeeting. Time to participate in the Dr. Seuss book voting and prize drawing is running out – ends April 30.
Just a reminder that we have wi-fi hot spots available for a 14-day loan. A wi-fi hotspot is a device that allows you to connect your mobile enabled devices (laptop, smartphones, tablets,) to the Internet. The hotspot is portable so you can connect your device almost wherever you go – home, the park, in the car, etc. Pick-up and drop-off at Sand lake Town Library only – these cannot be requested.

North Greenbush Public Library Update
NORTH GREENBUSH – Spring cleaning is happening at the North Greenbush Library! We’re clearing out our May craft kits to make room for summer reading crafts- and voila! -a craft grab-bag of kits is yours for the asking! Starting May 3, call the library for a list of available crafts and pick up using Grab ‘N’ Go.
If you’re itching for a fun and informative road trip, check out one of our museum passes, including the NYS Parks Empire Pass, the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art, and the USS Slater.
