Averill Park Sports By Isaac Joseph

AVERILL PARK – The Averill Park Football and Volleyball teams both had an exciting week of successful competition.

The football team won a thriller against Lasalle on 4/16, coming away with the 20-13 win. Both teams remained scoreless at the half, until Senior Ben Ferlito’s huge punt return in the third quarter led to an easy touchdown for Senior Dan Mcshane. Later in the quarter, Gavin Giordano intercepted the ball for AP, and rushed in for a touchdown on offense to put the Warriors up two touchdowns. Dan Mcshane rushed for another touchdown in the Warrior’s next offensive possession to put AP up 20-7. On the final defensive possession of the game, Junior Ryan Heffner made the game-winning tackle at the Averill Park 10 yard line to keep Lasalle out of the endzone as time expired. Dan Mcshane totaled 80 yards on the ground to lead AP to victory. The football team will face Burnt Hills next in the playoffs on 4/24.

The girls volleyball team picked up a big 25-14, 25-18, 25-18 win against Guilderland on 4/13. Senior Allison Lapinski had 30 assists in the win while Senior Anna Jankovic had 11 kills, Senior Emma Burdick had 9 kills, and Emily Prest had 22 service points. The volleyball team remained hot, beating Saratoga 25-15, 25-16, 23-25, 25-12 on 4/15. Emma Burdick led the girls team with 15 kills and 4 blocks while Bella Mahar and Emily Prest contributed with 11 and 9 kills respectively. The volleyball team will wrap up their regular season on 4/23 against Niskayuna.

I will be back next week to report on Averill Park scores and highlights. Go Warriors!
