The Book Seller is Open Saturdays

TROY – Have you checked out the Book Seller within the Lansingburgh library yet? Filled with gently used books of all types, plus CDs, the store has new selections each week. These have been safely quarantined before being put on the shelves.

The Book Seller is a project of the Friends of the Troy Public Library. All proceeds go to adding programs and services at the library, both at Main and the Lansingburgh Branch. For more info go to www.friendsofthetroylibrary.org or follow us on Facebook..

Short Story Reading and Discussion Group

TROY – On Wednesdays, through November 18th at 6PM (no meeting October 21), Short Story writer David Sylvester will lead a reading and discussion group at the Troy Public Library. Local short-story writer Dave Sylvester hosts The Short Story Café, an informal discussion of the short story form that examines how writers handle structural elements such as plot, character and theme in their writing. Each week we will read and discuss two stories by well-known (and some lesser-known!) masters of the form. Copies of the stories will be available in advance and should be read before the discussions. This program will be presented using Zoom. Joining the presentation will require the installation of the Zoom client on your computer (microphone and speakers required for audio, camera for video) or the Zoom app on your mobile device. The first set of stories is available at the information desk of the main library. For more information and to register call the library at 518-274-7071 or online at www.thetroylibrary.org.

North Greenbush Public Library Update

NORTH GREENBUSH – Let’s not forget the sacrifices our veterans have made. The library will be closed on Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11, that we may all remember and honor them. We will reopen Thursday, November 12, at 3 PM.

Kudos to local teen Molly Graiff, one of five first-place winners in the annual national Collaborative Summer Library Program’s 2020 Teen Video Challenge! This year’s challenge focused on creating a public services style video interpreting the Summer Reading program slogan “Imagine Your Story.” Her video, highlighting her local library, the North Greenbush Public Library, garnered the library a gift certificate for the purchase of reading supplies for next summer. Molly is the salutatorian of the Class of 2020 of the Wynantskill UFSD. You can view her winning video at https://youtu.be/6e7Ba1_ZN6s.

Our upcoming Virtual Book Club meeting is slated for Thursday, November 17, 6:30 PM, discussing ‘The Killings at Kingfisher Hill’ by Sophie Hannah. To participate in the Zoom discussion call the library for login information. Copies of the book can be reserved online or by calling the library.

You can support the library by recycling your bottles and cans at the 6 Cent Redemption Center, 461 Main Ave, Wynantskill, and request that your refund is donated to the library. The program, sponsored by Friends of the Library, provides that all items eligible for a NYS deposit be given to the library.

Remember, Saturday is back for appointments and Grab ’N’ Go. Our hours are Mon/ Wed/Fri/Sat 10 AM to 2 PM; Tue/Thur 3-7 PM. All patrons must wear a mask for both appointments and Grab ’N’ Go. Call the library at 518-283-0303.
