Vitalis was once a famous opera singer, but became destitute after a tragic love affair. Ever since that time he has been a traveling showman, touring the country with three dogs and a monkey. Climate Change: Heading for Extinction (And What to Do About It)
Join us at the Troy Public Library on Sunday, January 26th at 2PM as the Extinction Rebellion joins us to discuss the latest climate science.
In this public talk, climate speakers Hana Van der Kolk and Daniel Lander from Extinction Rebellion, will share the latest climate science on where our planet is heading, discuss some of the current psychology around climate change, and offer solutions through the study of social movements.

Painting & Poetry
If you love the imagery in literature – and think it would be fun to recreate some of it – this class is for you! Local artist Muse en Lystrala will be teaching a literature-rooted art class in which the imagery of a piece of literature will be discussed, and then brought to life using Renaissance and Impressionist methods with acrylic paint as a medium.
The class will be held on Tuesday, January 21st, 4:30-6:30 at the Lansingburgh Branch, and again on Saturday, January 25th, 1:30-3:30 at the Main Library.
Muse en Lystrala is a musician, artist, game developer, and literature enthusiast. She previously instructed a community art class called Dark Arts Paint, and among many other tasks creates music and art assets at her company, Queenship Game Studio. She lives and works in Troy.
This project is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by The Arts Center of the Capital Region.

Sending Humans to Mars
SpaceX, NASA and other agencies are actively working towards sending humans to Mars. You’ve probably heard a lot about this in the media, including some optimistic timelines of sending humans to Mars in the 2020’s. But what’s really going on? What are NASA and SpaceX working on? What are some of the Challenges we must overcome? And when might we actually see a human colony on Mars? Join Astronomer Dr. Valerie Rapson of the Dudley Observatory at the Troy Public Library on Wednesday, February 5, at 6:00 pm, and have all your tough Mars questions- answered.

Child Labor in the Cotton Mills
Bernard Ouimet, President of La Fédération Franco-Américaine du NY, will give a presentation on “Child Labor in the Cotton Mills”. Mr. Ouimet, a native of Quebec, will speak about the conditions in the mills, the jobs performed by the children, pay scale , and the health problems resulting from such work. The Troy Public Library will offer Guided Meditation Classes on Tuesdays, January 21st – February 25th from 5PM – 6PM.
Learn a surprisingly simple yet powerful practice that can help your reduce stress, get recharged, experience overall improved physical health and possibly get you “blissed-out” all while sitting comfortably in a chair. Led by Michael Fuselli, with over 30 years of meditation teaching and practice experience. Beginners always welcome. Registration is encouraged, but not necessary!
