Week 2 – North Chatham Free Library’s Summer Program!

We’re in the swing of it now! The second week of the N.Chatham Library’s Summer Program is fast approaching and we can’t wait to see you here. July 15, 12-2 pm, we’ll be making Fairy Gardens for tiny friends with the Garden Club of Kinderhook. July 16 will hold a Music and Movement class from 12-2. The first hour will be for ages 7 and under, the second for ages 8 and up. Then Canoe on the Hudson from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm on July 16. This activity leaves from the Stockport Creek. Enter into the relaxing world of brush stroke and color in Out of this World Watercolors from 12-2 pm on July 17. Send a Message to the Great Beyond on July 18 from 12-2. The North Chatham Free Library

The NCFL will host an international dance workshop for all ages on Sunday, July 14th at 3pm. Led by Bill and Livia Vanaver, founders of Vanaver Caravan, the workshop will be held at the North Chatham Firehouse in order to accommodate space for dancing. Bill and Livia say, “We do not simply teach the steps of a dance.  We teach the stories behind the dances linking to history, folklore, social movements, and cultural traditions.” Bill will also perform and talk about some of his experiences with ethnic music from around the world. Come to listen and to dance, or just sit back and watch the fun.

Hudson Valley Community College Instant Admission Evening

Join us at the Troy Public Library on July 15th, 5:30 -7:00 pm  when interested students will have the opportunity to sit down with a counselor one-on-one to discuss admission requirements and the enrollment process for HVCC. Bring an unofficial copy of high school transcripts and expect to walk away from the event as an accepted Hudson Valley student and with a clear idea regarding the next steps for enrollment.

Public Hearing on Preliminary 2020 Budget

East Greenbush: The East Greenbush Community Library will be holding a public hearing on the preliminary budget at the library on Tuesday, July 16 at 7:00 pm. The public is invited to attend. There is information on the preliminary budget available in the library and on the library’s website: www.eastgreenbushlibrary.org.

A second proposal on the ballot will be the election of one five-year position on the Library’s Board of Trustees. East Greenbush registered voters who wish to be

considered as candidates to the Board of Trustees can pick up an information packet at the library. The deadline for returning nominating petitions is August 6 at 5:00 pm.

The election to determine the budget and trustee will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2018, from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. Registered voters in the Town of East

Greenbush are eligible to vote.

Classical Guitar Concert with Harry Pellegrin at the Troy Public Library

The Troy Public Library is pleased to announce a Classical Guitar concert to be held Wednesday, July 17th at 6:30PM at the Troy Public Library’s Main location.

Come relax and unwind as you listen to some of the most beautiful music for the classical guitar performed by one of the area’s leading performers, Harry Pellegrin.

This project is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by The Arts Center of the Capital Region.

Friends of the Poestenkill Library

The Friends of the Poestenkill Library will be holding a bake sale during the Farmer’s Market on the Town Hall lawn on Saturday, July 20, 2019 from 9 am to 12 pm.  Stop by while shopping to pick up a tasty pie, muffins, breads, cookies and other assorted baked goods.  If you would like to bake for the sale please drop your goods off at the Poestenkill Library on Friday, July 19 from 10 am to 1 pm or on Saturday morning.  Funds raised go towards supporting the wonderful programs provided by our library.  Any questions please call Jill Gresens at 518-283-2510.

Troy Public Library Evening Book Discussion

The TPL’s Evening Book Group will be discussing Natural Causes: An Epidemic of Wellness, the Certainty of Dying, and Killing Ourselves to Live Longer by Barbara Ehrenreich on Monday, August 5th at 6:30 PM.

Our monthly book group meets to discuss a wide range of book selections. New members are always welcomed.  Monthly participation is not necessary, come for the books that interest you!

Friends of the Rensselaer Library

The Friends will be providing baked goods on Wednesdays at Music behind the North End Firehouse.  All members and anyone who would like to support the library are asked to bake, cookies, brownies, cup cakes or something similar.  Please drop off your items around 5:30 pm at our table, music starts at 6 pm.  All proceeds go to promote programs at the library during the year.

Registration for the summer reading program was held on June 29th but parents can still register their child for “A Universe of Stories”.  This program is designed to keep children reading during the summer months and improve their reading skills, there will be prizes.
