RPA Presents: Tree ID Workshop with Matt Thatcher

Tree ID Workshop with Matt Thatcher; Saturday, March 11, 10:30 am – 12:30 pm; Poestenkill Community Forest 200 Legenbauer Road Averill Park, New York 12018. $10 suggested donation; any amount is welcome. Pre-registration is required – space is limited, so register early.

Have you ever walked in a forest and wondered about the trees and the impacts they have on the surrounding forest? You are invited to join outing leader Matt Thatcher for a hike at Poestenkill Community Forest to learn more about the trees that call our forests home. Along with the basics of tree identification, this outing will cover some basic forestry practices and ecology principles.

Glass Lake Mens Golf League

On Tuesday, March 14th @6pm, the Glass Lake Men’s Golf league will have its league meeting at Burden Lake Country Club. All current league members, as well as anyone interested in joining should attend. First half league dues of $318 is required at the meeting, in order to play(there is a discounted rate for BLCC members). The full league dues include 23 weeks of league golf (9 holes each Tuesday afternoon), as well as two 18-hole tournaments during the season.

We are currently planning on Tuesday 4/11 as our first week of the season, with a mid-season tournament on Saturday 6/17 at a nearby course in the Capital Region, as well as our end of season tournament to be played at BLCC on Saturday 9/23.

Capital District Senior Softball League Looking for Players

Capital District Senior Softball League is recruiting players for their 53+ mens leagues for the spring/summer season.  

There are 53+ hi-arc, 53+ modified (flat pitch), and 65+ modified divisions.  All games are played at Veterans Field in Clifton Park.

Tuesday Treks : Every Tuesday 12:30 – 2:30

Join Len Tremblay on a moderately paced 3 mile hike every Tuesday in February to explore the wilds of Dyken Pond Center. Learn the trail system one at a time with a knowledgeable guide. Each week we’ll discover new ground and nature. Hikes will be cancelled in bad weather. Preregistration required at dykenpond@nullgmail.com or (518) 658-2055. Frear Park Old Timer’s Golf League

The Frear Park Old Timer’s Golf League is now accepting applications for membership. The League plays the back nine every Tuesday, at 0800, starting in late April. 

A, B and C groups are available. Handicaps will be established or accepted from the 2022 season. Open to all residents of the Capital District who are 65 years young.
