Rensselaer County Minority Office – June 2023 Monthly Report

Department of Employment and Training – Due to the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) program’s success, the Legislature unanimously approved an amended agreement with the department to increase the number of enrollees, that will provide employment and training services. This program and agreement is 100% supported through federal monies. It aims to reconnect eligible youth to the workforce by offering job training via apprenticeships and certificate programs, teaching standards in job searching, entry level professionalism, and financial literacy. The recruits would also receive stipends to incentivize attendance and completion of program.

The legislature also authorized the purchase of 300 Metric online learning licenses through New York Wired for Education for businesses to assist employers in the retention and upskilling of their current workforce.

23nd Annual Coats for Kids Campaign– Once again, the legislature unanimously voted to enter into a partnership with The Country Club of Troy to host their annual fundraiser and raise money to buy winter coats for underprivileged children. The County hopes for 140 golfers and are expecting to raise enough money to purchase 850-900 coats. The Golf tournament date for 2023 is September 12.

USDA Summer Food Program – The legislature unanimously voted to renew the annual county’s summer food program. The mission of the Summer Food Program is to ensure that all children under the age of 18 receive healthy meals during summer vacation.
