Cornell Cooperate Extension of Renssealer County Hosts Virtual 4-H Livestock Auction & Cow Chip Bingo Fundraiser

RENSSELAER COUNTY – Cornell Cooperative Extension of Rensselaer County is sad that we cannot experience certain annual events such as our 4-H Livestock Auction and Cow Chip Bingo Fundraiser with all of you in-person this year. However, we are excited to offer both of these opportunities in a virtual format.

• 4-H Livestock Auction: This year the auction will take place over Facebook. The auction will officially start on September 7th and last for a few days. For the time being if you would like to see the rules and regulations of the auction, this years auction animals, and the youth we are supporting, check out our 2020 Virtual Livestock Auction Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/Rensselaer-County-2020-Virtual-Livestock-Auction-110212034121570/

• Cattle Program Fundraiser-Cow Chip Bingo: Use this link to get your virtual ticket(s): https://reg.cce.cornell.edu/_238 Each ticket represents 1 square, which is $5 a piece. You will then be prompted to select your square(s) on a Google Doc. We will use the layout from the Google Doc to make our actual Cow Chip Bingo Grid. And for those of you who have never heard of Cow Chip Bingo, a cow is then released out on the grid. Whichever square the cow “chips” (or poops) in is the winner and will receive a monetary prize. 1st place is $100, 2nd place is $75, and 3rd place is $50. The event will be held on Facebook Live on Thursday, September 3rd. All payments must be sent to our office (61 State, Troy NY 12182) or taken over the phone before the start of the Facebook Live event on the scheduled date. More information can be found on our event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/346645969698177

Mindful Nature Walk

EAST NASSAU – 10 am-12pm, Saturday, September 12, 2020. Albert Family Community Forest. 120 Hayes Road, East Nassau, NY

Rensselaer Plateau Alliance invites you to celebrate National Forest Bathing Day with us on a Mindful Nature Walk! Forest Bathing is a Japanese wellness practice that welcomes us to take in the forest atmosphere with all of our senses. Nature has the ability to calm, inspire, and restore us in all seasons — so let’s take some much-needed time to receive what is offered.

Kripalu-Certified Mindful Outdoor Guides Molly Freiberg and Sandy Wilson will guide our group to engage with nature in the present moment, as we experience it through all of our senses, to appreciate the complex wonders we often don’t notice when we are rushed or distracted. During this walk, we will be sauntering slowly, on gently rolling forested trails, for about 1.5 miles total.

No experience is necessary — beginners are welcome! Bring water and a small snack in case you get hungry or thirsty. Masks are required when we first meet up and when we gather and may be removed while we are walking in the forest with at least 10’ between participants. No contact with money or sign-in sheets will be necessary for participants as all will be pre-paid and pre-registered.

Sand Lake Town Wide Garage Sale-Update

SAND LAKE – The Sand Lake Town Wide Garage Sale is set for September 19th and 20th. However, there will NOT be a vendor corral/flea market this year due to obvious public health and safety concerns. Register your sale at sandlakebusiness.com and click on EVENTS. It is free to put your residence on the map. Remember the web posting option whereby you can market your special goods online for a small fee. The Kiwanis Club of Sand Lake Fundraising Drive

SAND LAKE – The Kiwanis Club of Sand Lake is supporting a charity fundraising drive within the Averill Park Central School District to benefit the Capital Region’s Ronald Mc Donald House. The fundraising drive has been extended until February 28th since schools have not been in session for over four months. The goal remains to collect enough pull tabs from soda, beer, soups and pet food cans to fill a school bus!

We ask that parents of our school children and other interested citizens join this effort by removing and collecting as many pull tabs as possible during the months ahead and while schools remain closed take them to the Town Clerk’s office at Sand Lake Town Hall. When schools reopen all collected pull tabs may again be dropped off at the office of one of our three elementary schools, the Algonquin Middle School’s office or to the office at the Averill Park High School.

Please join us to help the Ronald McDonald House as it continues to offer a haven of comfort, love, hope and support – free of charge – for critically ill children and their families. Thank you.
