Stephentown Historical Society will celebrate its 50th Anniversary on July 8 & 9

The Stephentown Historical Society is hosting a celebration on July 8 and 9 to mark the 50th anniversary of its founding. The open house at the Stephentown Heritage Center will bring together those interested in the town’s stories and will reflect upon those individuals integral to the success and progression of this beloved institution.

To spark your memories or curiosity, exhibits will show off vintage photos of olden days in town, Stephentown’s veterans, updated display cases, and slide shows of the society’s events over the years. A working train layout will mark the importance of railroading to the town, from decades of active passenger and freight service to the current recreational Corkscrew Rail Trail. The store area offers various historical albums, t-shirts, and other Historical Society memorabilia.

The Heritage Center is at 4 Staples Road, facing Garfield Road. Hours are 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday, July 8, and 1 to 4 pm on Sunday, July 9. Come and meet your neighbors, share a memory, and learn something new (or old) about the “only Stephentown on Earth.” The events are free and open to the public. The building is handicapped accessible.

Sunday’s event includes the annual potluck picnic at 2 pm. The society is providing rotisserie chicken, as well as tableware and beverages. All that is needed to complete the menu is for folks to bring dishes large enough to share … coleslaw, green salad, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, corn bread or desserts.
