Trout Day at Grafton Lakes State Park

Grafton Lakes State Park is hosting its annual Trout Day. Date is to be determined but will fall during school Spring Break April 11th-14th from 10am-12:30pm. As the weather gets warmer it is the perfect time to stock Long Pond and Second Pond with trout. The DEC will be providing trout and Grafton will be providing activities. Park in the Rabbit Run parking lot.

Come on your own or bring out the whole family, Trout Day is the perfect event for all ages. Enjoy trout shaped treats, crafts, and educational booths highlighting the wonders of trout! Learn about their habitats, fly tying, and macro invertebrates.

Please check our website and Facebook for updates on the exact event date. $3 cash per person, ages 5 and under free to enter. DEC will bring trout at 12pm. Come help stock our ponds! Following the event will be an opportunity for children under the age of 16 to learn to fish. Those 16 and over must have a valid NYS fishing license to participate.

No pre-registration required. This event is wheelchair accessible.

Grafton Lakes State Park is located off of Route 2, twelve miles east of Troy, New York. Please use the park’s main entrance on Grafton Lakes State Park Way for this event. There is no entrance fee for this event. Follow the signs to the Rabbit Run parking lot. For more information, please call the park at 518-279-1155.

RPA’s Weekend Trail Crew at Dill Brook Community Forest

Saturday April 8, 2023 10am-12pm. ​Dill Brook Community Forest, 329 Dill Brook Road, Petersburgh, New York 12138

You are invited to join members of the Rensselaer Plateau Alliance – Rensselaer Land Trust Trail Crew and members of the Dill Brook Community Forest Committee for a morning of trail work and community at RPA’s Dill Brook Community Forest, a new property slated to open to the public later this year. 

This event will include two hours of trail work and general cleanup work and may include periods of sitting or standing in the woods. Bring water and a snack. Dress in appropriate layers for the weather conditions and be sure to wear appropriate footwear. Trails may be muddy or wet. 

Volunteers are welcome to pack a lunch and eat at Dill Brook Community Forest after trail work concludes for the day. Go to Rensselaerplateau.org/events to register!

May & June Lacrosse Programs for Boys 

CAPITAL DISTRICT – Capitalland lacrosse will be running a boy’s MAY & JUNE lacrosse programs.  Players can chose to play on Tuesdays night, Sunday afternoons or BOTH.  Programs will start on May 16 and end on June 25.  Each group will play for an hour and a half each day/night.  Levels include: a co-ed K – 5th learn to play program; boys instructional programs for beginner & novice players grades 2nd – 5th & 6th- 10th; an advanced instruction program for players in graders 3 – 6 & 7 – 9 who want to refine their game while being introduced to more advanced techniques.  All age level will be separated and a scrimmage will be held each night.  For more information on all of these programs go to www.capitallandlacrosse.com or e-mail us at chad@nullcapitallandlacrosse.com.

RPA Presents: Spring Amphibian Walk at Poestenkill Community Forest

Come take a walk in the woods to observe the spring activities at Poestenkill Community Forest’s vernal pools, where frogs and salamanders are awakening from their winter hibernation to meet for their annual mating rituals.
