Constituent Report for July 2022 from Schodack Supervisor Charles Peter
For the first time ever, we have extended our popular “Music in The Park” concert series to additional dates in August. Concerts started again this week with “Jarrod”, August 9th we’ll host “Scarlett Fever”, August 16th “Pete and Friends” will play, and we wrap things up on August 23rd when “The Yankee Doodle Band” will play after a rain delay and scheduling conflict had resulted in them needing to cancel their July date. We look forward to seeing you there!
At our July 14th Town Board meeting, the Town Board approved the purchase of a mini excavator for the highway department to assist them in their work. The Town took delivery of the excavator on the 28th and has already been put to work on several jobs. Additionally, I recommended to the Town Board that we allocate additional funds this year to pave more roads than initially budgeted. The Board agreed and I will be working with our Highway Superintendent to identify and select roads to add to our paving schedule. These were non-budgeted expenses that we were able to make due to the fiscal prudence the Town Board has shown for years preceding my time as Supervisor. While economic times and markets are uncertain, Schodack stands in a strong position to weather whatever challenges may come our way and our Town Board members and employees deserve a lot of credit for putting us there.
The Board also approved the purchase a projector to be used in part for “Movie in the Park” nights in the future. We are now researching PA systems and trying to identify dates for a movie night. And finally, after 18 years of service to the people of Schodack, Officer Michael Miller retired from the Schodack Police Department on July 15th. We appreciate Mike’s dedication to his community and thank him for his commitment to protecting our residents these past 18 years. Happy retirement and best wishes Officer Miller!

I believe staying in touch with constituents is an important part of serving in elective office. This report, published every month since I took office in 2016, is an example of my commitment to keeping Schodack residents informed about town government news and community events. During July, the Town Board appointed five members to the Board of Ethics which completes the final piece of the town Code of Ethics update, the first since 1970. I would like to thank Town Supervisor Charles Peter for following through on this long overdue, good government initiative that has been a key objective of mine since taking office. Congratulations to the appointed board members and thank you for agreeing to serve on this important board.
The Town Board honored retiring Police Officer Michael Miller for his 18 years of dedicated service to the Schodack Police Department. Throughout his career, Mike distinguished himself as a person of outstanding ability, high integrity, and a role model for all. Best wishes, Mike, for a healthy and enjoyable retirement. The Town Board appointed John Bunney to full-time Police Officer. Congrats, John, and welcome to the best police force in the Capital Region.
Thank you to our Schodack Highway Department employees for their hard work maintaining our local roads throughout this extremely hot summer. There has been a lot of progress through this year’s Road Program, including the striping of Miller Road, Bunker Hill Road, and Sunset Road which adds another component of safety to our roadways.
The Town Board and Highway Department will continue to work together to identify areas of improvement to the residents of Schodack. Please use caution when traveling through our road construction and maintenance areas. Our employees are hard at work for our town, and we want to keep them, and you, safe.
