Scott Connors to speak on Vintage Typewriters in the Digital Age

Scott Connors will give a talk on his passion, Vintage Typewriters in the Digital Age, on Sunday, May 1, at 2:00 p.m.

He is owner and operator of Stephentown Typewriter Co. and will show some vintage machines and tell history of the typewriter and all aspects of it. This Stephentown Historical Society program meeting will be held at the Stephentown Heritage Center, 4 Staples Road, Stephentown, New York.

The program is free and the building is handicapped accessible. For directions, telephone (518) 733-0010.

Connors is an author, musician and classic car collector, as well as avid typewriter enthusiast.

He first came to be fascinated by typewriters as a writer. The author of two published novels, he had a desire to write on a typewriter. He bought a “backup” machine in case the first one broke. On finding these machines rarely break, he fixed up the backup machine and sold it, thus beginning his journey into typewriters. He began to specialize in machines from the 1920s through the 1950s. He searched out old typewriter repair manuals and old typewriter tools and learned some “trade secrets” from a small cadre of old repairmen. He has been able to preserve beloved typewriters for others, returning them to working order and their former glory while keeping them in their original state.

Greenbush Historical Society Presents Characters of the Capital District

Please join the Greenbush Historical Society on Sunday, April 24, 2 PM, for Jill Knapp’s captivating program about three colorful characters that were once well-known to readers of local newspapers in the Capital District.

Political correctness did not exist in the mid 1800’s. Newspapers could be relentless in their ridicule or attacks on local characters and minorities. On occasion, however, the newspapers could be truly supportive of unfortunate individuals who were trying to better themselves.

The program is free and open to the public. Because seating is limited, please call the library at 518-477-7476 to register. This is the first Society program since the pandemic restricted public gatherings and we hope to see many old friends, members and guests on April 24.
