How Can I Help?

TROY – This is a common question these days during the pandemic. It is hard to know just what you can do with the various restrictions on our activities.

There is an urgent and continuous need for non-perishable food products for our local food pantries in Rensselaer and West Sand Lake. But how do I participate? Here is your answer.

Hope Lutheran Church, 470 Winter Street Extension, at the intersection of Blooming Grove Drive in North Greenbush is offering free shopping bags for your use. Bags are located on the front porch of the church. The bags also have a listing of suggestions of what you may purchase. Just stop by and pick up an empty bag. After you have completed your shopping put your purchases in the bag and return it to the church porch. (Food is moved inside the church daily to avoid freezing.) And if you are so motivated, take another empty bag.

This is one way you can help the unemployed, the poor, the food challenged, and all those affected by the pandemic.

The Social Action Committee of Hope Lutheran Church sincerely thanks you for your help.

Can Church Happen Anywhere?

AVERILL PARK – Ask anyone from the Church of the Covenant in Averill Park and the answer will be a resounding, “Yes!” In fact, our skilled leadership had a hybrid model of “church” in place as soon as things changed last spring. At present, out of an abundance of caution our building is closed for a few weeks, but our 9:30 am Sunday services are continuing as usual. We are delighted to be able to provide an opportunity to our neighbors far and wide to attend our church on Facebook. And we do mean “far” with viewers from the Capital District, Florida, and even Scotland tuning in. The service features plenty of music from our talented organist/pianist, our renowned choir (virtually), and guest soloists. And you can always count on an inspirational message from Pastor Joe Auslander. Why not plan on joining us for 45 minutes or so at 9:30 on Sunday? Pour yourself that second cup of coffee, set the Sunday paper aside for a bit, and tune in using the link https://www.facebook.com/COCAverillPark/
