Tracey Rex Reports to the People of Schodack

SCHODACK – I believe staying in touch with constituents is an important part of serving in elective office. This monthly report is an example of my commitment to keeping residents informed of the activities of the Schodack Town Board. All meetings of the Town Board, Planning Board, and Zoning Board can be viewed live or at a later date at https://townhallstreams.com/towns/schodack.

At our annual organization meeting on January 9, the Town Board approved several appointments to key leadership positions in town government. I congratulate all of the appointees and thank them for their dedication to the important mission of public service.

A presentation was made to the Town Board on January 23 regarding the proposed consolidation of the East Schodack, Nassau, and Nassau Lake West Fire Districts. According to representatives of the fire districts, the goal is to combine resources to optimize operational efficiency and provide emergency services as one large fire district.

I enjoyed taking a tour of The Anchor Food Pantry with Paula Sancomb and Carolyn Stetson. The Anchor is an important community resource for local families in need. Thank you to all who donate to The Anchor including our local businesses, farms and neighbors. Thank you also to Ben Karis-Nix who donated his superior design skills to creating the new welcome sign at The Anchor.

I recently joined Brianne Morrow for a tour of the Maple Hill Preschool in Castleton. For 50 years, Maple Hill Preschool has helped prepare children ages 3 and 4 for kindergarten with a fun yet structured learning environment. For more information, visit www.maplehillpreschool.org.

During January, there were several “food for a good cause” events. From Pizza Nights at Schodack Valley and East Schodack Fire Companies to the Castleton Fire Department’s breakfast and Castleton Kiwanis Chicken BBQ, these are excellent opportunities for family and friends to come together to enjoy a great meal.
