North Greenbush Report from Councilwoman Mary Frances Sabo
The arrival of fall means that it is time for the town to adopt the 2020 budget. A copy of the tentative 2020 budget is currently on file in the Town Clerk’s office and a public hearing is scheduled for Thursday, November 14 at 6:40 p.m. at the town offices. I would encourage all to attend. This year’s budget contains a 3% tax decrease.
As more residents move into multi-family housing in town, many have spoken to me about a dog park for dogs to run off leash and get exercise. I have held a series of community discussions about the feasibility of creating a dog park in town. We now have a core group of volunteers who are prepared to begin fundraising and to circulate petitions to residents and stakeholders to demonstrate community support for a dog park. I will continue to support these effort and will keep you updated on progress the group makes.
At the October board meeting, I again introduced a resolution to make North Greenbush a “Climate Smart Community. or “CSC”. This is a a state program that helps local governments take action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adopt to a changing climate. The first step in the process of becoming a climate smart community is adopting a resolution which costs nothing and does not commit the town to further steps. The board again tabled the resolution for further study but pledged to re-examine it again in November.
As a board member, I am committed to ongoing training to better serve the community. At the end of the month, I will be participating in two day long conferences dealing with local government and planning sponsored by the Department of State and the Capital District Regional Planning Commission. I will be attending classes on cyber security, stormwater management and ethics in the planning and zoning process.
Finally, the town’s Halloween parade and costume party will take place on October 26 at 6:00 p.m. Parade lineup begins at the Family Dollar plaza on Main Avenue.

Paper Shredding Event Saturday, October 26
The City of Rensselaer is hosting a Paper Shredding Event on Saturday, October 26th from 9AM-12PM for the residents of East Greenbush, Schodack, and the City of Rensselaer.
Documents for shredding may be brought to the City Hall Visitors Parking Lot across from Rensselaer City hall at 62 Washington Street, Rensselaer that day.
Please note that there is a 3 box mamximum.

City of Rensselaer will participate in the National Drug Take Back Day Saturday, October 26
City of Rensselaer residents may drop off unused or expired medication for safe disposal from 10am-2pm at the Northend Firehouse, 2 St. Francis Place, Rensselaer.
Please do not bring hazardous wastes, sharps; such as used needles, or illegal drugs.

East Greenbush Fall Pick up
The 2019 Fall Leaf Pick up will begin on Monday, October 28, 2019 and will continue for four weeks including:
The week of October 28th, 2019, November 4th, 2019, November 11th, 2019, and November 18th, 2019
DPW employees will begin leaf pickup on Mondays, and traverse the entire town each week in the same manner until every road has been done. The employees will resume pothole patching and other winter preparation after the leaves and brush have been picked up for that week, and resume the same route the following week. If it snows, leaf pickup will be resumed as weather permits.
Leaves must be in biodegradable bags and brush is to be cut into 4’ lengths and bundled. Bags of leaves and bundles of brush must be placed on the side of the road just off the pavement. Please do not block any drainage structures or culverts and DO NOT place anything on the pavement.
Please be advised these are the only dates the Department of Public Works will be picking up leaves and bundles of brush. If you miss these dates, you may bring these items to the Transfer Station with proof of address. No permit is required for disposal of leaves and brush at the Transfer Station.
