Piscataway Nation Singers & Dancers Perform at Hudson Valley Community College

All are welcome to celebrate Native American Heritage Month and learn more about American Indian history, culture and traditions on Thursday, Nov. 7 when the Piscataway Nation Singers & Dancers perform at Hudson Valley Community College. The free event is noon to 1 p.m. in the Bulmer Telecommunications Center Auditorium on the Troy campus. Mark Tayac and the Piscataway Nation Singers & Dancers carry on the long-standing traditions and culture of their indigenous ancestors. The troupe travels from the Tayac Territory in Port Tobacco, MD with its colorful, educational and entertaining pow wow-style program of American Indian dance, drum and song. The Piscataway Nation Singers & Dancers also appear frequently on the History and Discovery channels, and perform regularly at the Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC and at major Native American festivals throughout the United States. Successors of the Algonquin peoples, members of the Piscataway Nation were the first Native Americans to encounter Captain John Smith along the Potomac River in 1608. No advance tickets are needed to attend the Piscataway Nation Singers & Dancers performance that is presented by the college’s Cultural Affairs Program. Lansingburgh Historical Society’s Open House

Lansingburgh Historical Society’s monthly open house is Saturday, November 9, 2019, 10 am to 2 pm and keeping with celebrating Melville’s 200th birthday we will have 2 young musicians from Troy Music Academy. Hannah and Zach Ryan will be playing acoustical music from 12 noon to 2 pm in the Melville House located at 2 114th St., Troy, NY 12182. Come tour the house and listen to music performed by these two talented young people. The Lansingburgh Historical Society appreciates your $5 donation at the the door. These donations help to support maintaining the history of Lansingburgh for future generations and help in the care of our historic home. Valley Falls UMC Art Show

The Valley Falls United Methodist Church will be holding the 4th Annual Fine Arts Show on Saturday, November 9, 2019 from 1 PM to 4 PM. The show will feature area artists and their artwork. There will be an artists’ reception during the show, and the public is welcome to vote for a “People’s Choice” award. Admission to the show is free. Back by popular demand, Bill Staines coming to SLCA

Sand Lake Center for the Arts invites you to see folk legend Bill Staines in Concert on November 16. Back by popular demand, sing along with this legendary folksinger/songwriter through his original songs of pure Americana. He has traveled around the country singing these songs for both children and adults since the early sixties, playing some 200 concerts per year and he has been the artist invited back to SJC more than any other and always to a packed house.
