Shakespeare & Co. “Hamlet” and “The Taming of the Shrew” Free Performances at Hudson Valley CC

The Lenox, MA-based Shakespeare & Company brings two of The Bard’s classic plays to the Maureen Stapleton Theatre on the Troy campus. The 90-minute productions are part of the company’s educational touring program and are suitable for ages 10 and up.

“Hamlet” will be performed from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, followed by “The Taming of the Shrew” from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21. All are welcome to attend, and admission is free.

Both plays test long-held beliefs about love, duty, friendship, power, identity and wealth. These performances mark the 10th year of Shakespeare & Company’s week-long residency when a series of acting and theater arts workshops are offered to all students, faculty and staff. The residency traditionally includes a free performance for the public during the Winter Break observed by most public school districts. Sweet Megg & The Wayfarers Bring Hot NYC Jazz, Blues and Western Swing to Hudson Valley CC

Winter blues take on a new meaning on Friday, Feb. 15, when Sweet Megg & The Wayfarers present a noontime concert in the Hudson Valley Community College’s Bulmer Telecommunications Center Auditorium on the Troy campus. All are welcome to attend the noon to 1 p.m. performance; admission is free.

NYC-based Sweet Megg & The Wayfarers transport audiences with music that seamlessly mixes elements of New Orleans Swing, Harlem Swing, Parisian Cabaret and Gut Bucket Blues. Sweet Megg imbues each song with a blend of melancholy and euphoria, saxophonist Ryan Weisheit channels late, great sax players like Sidney Bechet and Charlie Parker, and with the remaining Wayfarers, leave no doubt that true jazz is alive and well.
