Youth Snowmobile Safety Course

On Saturday, December 7, 2019 the Grafton Trail Blazers Snowmobile Club and Grafton Lakes State Park will host a snowmobile safety course for young people ages 10 to 18. Students must be at least 10 years old on the day of the course to attend. Parents are encouraged to stay and participate. The course will be held at the Grafton VFW/Fire Hall at 581 South Road from 8:15am to approximately 4:30pm. The course will be taught by NYS certified volunteer instructor Jim Blessing. Topics covered include NYS laws and regulations, riding skills, trail emergencies, protecting the environment, maintenance and repair, and trailering. To register, call the Grafton Lakes State Park Welcome Center at 518-279-1155, ext. 2 or e-mail mary.downey@nullparks.ny.gov with the parent’s name, student’s name and age, and your phone number. Adults are encouraged to attend as well so please let us know if a parent will be accompanying the child. Space is limited, so no walk-ins please. The course is free of charge and lunch will be provided.

Annual Yule Log Tradition

Join Rensselaer Youth Outdoors at the Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center on Sunday, December 15th from 1:00-3:30 pm as we honor the Winter Solstice by spending a day outdoors and enjoying the Annual Yule Log Tradition.

Help us search for the hidden yule log, spend some time around the community campfire, make a craft, collect some greens, and relax during this busy time of year. A wise owl will tell Joseph Bruchac’s story “How Grandmother Spider Stole The Sun”. Light refreshments will be available, or bring your own to share.

This is a free program, so tell your family and friends.

Three Columbia Blue Devils Make College Commitments

Three Columbia High School student athletes put ink to paper at a press conference on November 21 in the school’s auditorium, officially making their college commitments. Chesney Romer will play volleyball at Hamilton College, Hannah Scarano will play softball at Merrimack College and Owen Stefanko will play lacrosse at Long Island University.

“I want to congratulate all of the parents, family members and friends and coaches on this great achievement,” Columbia Athletic Director Michael Leonard told the audience at the press conference. “These three are outstanding, not just in the world of sports, but they have also been positive role models and leaders of our school community.”

New York City Bus Trip – December 14th

The Volunteer Fire Company of Center Brunswick, Inc. is sponsoring a bus trip to New York City at Christmas. The bus will leave the firehouse at 1045 Hoosick Road on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 8:00 a.m. and will arrive at Bryant Park in New York City. The bus will be departing Bryant Park at 8:00 p.m. returning to the firehouse at approximately 11:00 p.m. Participants will have the day in New York City to see a show, shop, sightsee, or whatever they desire. December Mindful Nature Walk

Sunday, December 15, 9 am – 12 pm — Poestenkill Community Forest, 200 Legenbauer Rd, Averill Park (in East Poestenkill)

We will combine forest bathing, walking, and present-centered awareness to relieve stress and get inspired. Just as squirrels gather and store nuts for winter food, we can cultivate our own warmth and sustenance through our connection to land and each other. Town of East Greenbush Adult Indoor Corn Hole

Adult Indoor Corn Hole will begin at the Hampton Manor Beach House on Thursday January 2nd at 5:30 PM and run consecutively each Tuesday @ 3PM and each Thursday at 5:30 PM throughout the winter months. Due to limited space in the building there are limited spots. Please pre-register by calling 518-477-4194. You can pick one time slot or the other or both. Cards and Games will also be available in the beach house for those not interested in corn hole, but looking to get out and socialize. Please let us know if there are larger groups or leagues that would be interested in playing at the Red Barn in the Town Park- give us a call to discuss.
