The New York Independent System Operator has named its general counsel Robert Fernandez as interim CEO after the departure of CEO Bradley Jones.
The change takes place immediately, according to the NYISO, which oversees the state’s high-voltage electric grid and wholesale electricity markets.
“Rob is extremely talented and will ably guide the company as we move forward during this transition period,” NYISO board chairperson Ave Bie said. “He brings over 32 years of industry experience to the interim role, including nearly 20 years at the NYISO. His extensive knowledge and leadership capabilities will be invaluable to market participants, stakeholders, government partners and all who rely on the NYISO.”
Fernandez has been general counsel and chief compliance officer since 2000.
The NYISO did not mention in its announcement where Jones is going, although he had been CEO of the NYISO for three years.
A NYISO spokesperson could not immediately be reached for comment about Jones’ departure or the status of a search for a permanent replacement.
Jones made nearly $1 million in annual compensation, according to the NYISO’s most recent tax return made public, Fernandez’s total compensation was about $779,000.
