2019 Renewable Energy and Sustainable Living Fair

The fourth annual Green Fair will be held on Saturday, November 16 from 10-4 pm at the Sage College Armory,130 New Scotland Ave. Albany, NY. Enjoy one-stop shopping with information, services and products related to living in harmony with our earth. There will be more sixty exhibitors and speakers at the Fair. The Capital District Electric Vehicle Club will have its cars on display too. The Fair is free and open to the public with ample space and accessible parking. It is sponsored by Community Advocates for a Sustainable Environment, a local grassroots group. This is the largest indoor/outdoor environmental Fair in the Capital Region.

At the Fair, one can meet both for-profit and not-for-profit exhibitors, listen to speakers on a variety of environmental and sustainability topics while enjoying good food (including vegan options) and drink. The Fair is a “zero waste” event.

Zion’s UCC Holiday Bazaar on November 9th

We invite you to begin the Christmas Season with all of us on the mountain, over looking the beautiful Little Bowen Pond.

There will be tables of gifts, crafts and supplies to begin preparing for the Holidays. We have great deals on wrapping paper and greeting cards! Children’s activities will be upstairs.

Come for the best apple pie around. Barb and her baking crew have been busy baking! Pickup a fresh or frozen pie or two, just pop in the oven, your house will smell terrific for the Holidays!!

While shopping at the Gift Tables, you won’t go away hunger. Crock pots of “Homemade” Soups and Chili will warm you up. Before or after a delicious lunch, why not have a piece of pie with or without ice cream. And of course we’ll have baked goods!

What would a Bazaar be without raffles – we got em!! Take a Chance to win the gorgeous 2019 Holiday Quilt, titled a Holiday Jewel Box and made by Linda Bondi. There will also be other great raffle items. Be sure to fill out the enclosed raffle tickets and either bring them with you to the Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, November 9th or mail them to the church at 741 Taborton Road, Sand Lake, NY 12153.

Church of the Redeemer Thrift Shop

The Church of the Redeemer Thrift Shop has earned an excellent reputation by offering quality merchandise at bargain prices. We offer clothing for all ages and sizes, household goods, jewelry, puzzles, toys, record albums, CD’s, DVD ‘s and so much more! The Christmas Room is overflowing.

The shop will be open on Thursday November 7th from 3 to 6 and Saturday November 9th from 9 to 2. Located at 1249 Third Street in Rensselaer, the shop is on CDTA bus route #214. Enter through the parking lot on the Catherine Street side and be pleasantly surprised.

Melvin Roads Verterans Day

Melvin Roads American Legion Post 1231 celebrates Veterans Day, 1:00 PM, Monday , November 11th, 2019 at the post, 200 Columbia Turnpike, East Greenbush. Enjoy the parade & then stop by Melvin Roads for our ceremony & refreshments. One hundred & one years ago, The Great War ended on the eleventh day of the eleventh month, at the eleventh hour. Our name sake Private Melvin Roads died the night before the Armistice took effect. PVT Roads served his country, and gave his life to a cause he believed in. Post 1231 celebrates his service and the service of all veteran’s, along with their families. Please join us as we and our local representatives support all veteran’s everywhere.

The 21st Annual Rensselaer County Veterans Breakfast, sponsored by Rensselaer County Unified Family Services, Veterans Service Agency, is served at Melvin Roads American Legion this year on Sunday November 10th, 2019 . All veterans and their families are welcome to come down and enjoy a special breakfast from 8:30 to 11:30 AM with a Ceremony at noon. County, and State representatives will award medals at the noon ceremony to individuals who were awarded the medals, but never received them.

Greenbush Garden Club Awards Grants

Each year the Greenbush Garden Club awards grant to local schools or community organizations for educational programs and/or community beautification projects, ideally targeted to kids.

This year the Club awarded grants to the Robert C Parker school for a ground cherry garden and to the Green Meadow School for a rock garden. We wish them every success with these projects.

Money for the grants and the Club’s Garden Therapy program at Van Renesselear Manor is raised at our plant sale which is held in May of each year.

New members are always welcome. The Club meets at the East Greenbush Library. For the months of September, October and November of this year we will meet on the 2nd Tuesday of the month. We hope to see you then.

East Nassau Cookie Contest November 10th

Mayor Adam Acquario announced the Village of East Nassau’s 6th Annual Cookie Contest, Sunday, November 10th, 2019 at the Hoags Corners Fire House. Doors open at 1 p.m., judges begin tasting at 2 pm.

Anyone interested in entering the contest can do so by emailing cookies@nullvillageofeastnassau.org or calling Tom Kernan at 518-766-5131. You can also visit villageofeastnassau.org/cookie to print out a form. Just Bring the form, a $10 entry contribution and two dozen cookies to the event. Your cookie may become the Official Cookie of East Nassau! A prestigious honor sought by many.

Stewart’s ice cream for all, local entertainment as well as Chinese and regular auctions of outstanding items donated by nearby merchants and restaurants will be on hand as we get together for a good time.

Mayan Hands Craft Sale

The Catholic Community of St. Henry’s is hosting our annual Fair Trade Sale of high quality products from Central & South America. Come to the community room on the weekend of November 9th & 10th. Sale hours will be 2:30 PM-5:30 PM on Saturday and 8:30 AM- 12 noon on Sunday. There will be many useful, charming and unusual products that make great gifts including beautiful baskets, scarves, handbags, personal accessories, Christmas items, children’s items, Fair Trade coffee and chocolate and more. This sale is a concrete way of ensuring that skilled artisans, while still poor, will not sink into destitution. The East Greenbush VFW Auxiliary is holding their annual Vendor/Craft Fair on Saturday November 9 from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm at the VFW on Hays Road in East Greenbush. Many new Vendors and Crafters with very unique items, (many can be personalized) to purchase as Christmas gifts or for yourself. St. Jude’s Christmas Craft Fair will be held November 9, 2019 9-3 PM at 42 Dana Ave Wynantskill NY. Santa will be there for pictures from 11-1:30 PM. Making Mead: A Demonstration. – Presenter: Darren Mitchell, CAB Member Learn how one of our club’s members transforms honey into mead, a delicious beverage made since ancient times and still enjoyed today.

The Volunteer Fire Company of Center Brunswick will be hosting a Holiday Vendor Fair on Saturday, November 16th at the fire house located at 1045 Hoosick Road, Troy. Harvest Craft and Food Festival

Join us at a joint Harvest Craft and Food Festival on Saturday, November 16, 2019, from 9 AM to 2 PM, featuring creations from the members of Church of the Covenant in Averill Park, Pawling Avenue United Methodist Church in Troy, Bloomingrove Reformed Church in Defreestville, and First Reformed Church of Wynantskill. This ecumenical event will take place at the First Reformed Church, Corner of Main Avenue (NYS Rt. 66) and Church Streets in Wynantskill.

Each congregation will have a variety of interesting crafts for sale. There will also be homemade canned goods, specialty Royal Icing cookies, a homemade soup and salad lunch, as well as frozen homemade entrees for you to purchase for future enjoyment. In addition, there will be a combined bake sale with the proceeds benefiting community organizations.

To make your shopping experience a relaxing event, we are offering free coffee and donuts, free fresh-popped popcorn, and a free “Kids Space” where kids can enjoy face painting and create their own projects, allowing you to freely browse the many creations and goodies we have to offer.

Holiday Happenings in Nassau

Visit from Santa! Holiday ornaments! Tree lighting ceremony! Sunday, December 1st the Village of Nassau will be transformed into a Holiday Wonderland for children and adults.

Santa will be visiting the Nassau Fire Department located on Chatham St. (Rt. 203). Arriving at 3:30pm, he’s inviting children to visit and spend time chatting with him. Santa will be staying until 5pm. Children can also visit the Village Youth Committee who will be making holiday ornaments at the Fire House from 3:30-4:30pm.

When the sun goes down at 5pm, the Village Commons on John St. will be the site of the annual Tree Lighting ceremony.To get everyone into the Holiday Spirit, there will be musical entertainment from members of the Nassau Community Band, a roaring bonfire and a visit from Santa. We will also be collecting new, unwrapped toys for the Nassau Resource Center.

The Village of Castleton-on-Hudson will kick off the Holiday season on December 1st from 3:30 to 4:30 PM at the Village Hall, 85 South Main Street. Please join us for the third annual Holiday Parade hosted by the Town of East Greenbush and the Town Emergency Services. Step-off is at 6:00 PM starting at the East Greenbush Firehouse on Philips Road, traveling north on Phillips to Columbia Turnpike, left on Columbia Turnpike and then left into Becker’s Farm. Following the parade everyone is invited to stop in at Becker’s Farm to have some snacks with Santa!
