Oktoberfest Brings Bavaria to Nassau

Nassau’s Village Beautification Committee presents a traditional Oktoberfest celebration on Sunday, September 29th at the Village Commons Park on John Street, just off US Route 20. The event runs from 12 noon until 4 p.m. and features traditional German foods, beverages and entertainment.

Inspired by European harvest festivals, the Oktoberfest menu will include a variety of tasty treats including an array of locally-made German sausages, vegan bratwurst, imported German sauerkraut, potato salad and made-as-you-watch potato pancakes. All foods area available for take-out.

What’s an Oktoberfest without good beer? That question is answered with a selection of fresh and local ales from Nassau’s own S & S Farm Brewery. Brewing at the historic Sanford Farm on Jefferson Hill Road, this young, vibrant team brings a breath of fresh air into the local craft beer scene. Even Bavarian’s agree “fresh beer is the best beer.”

Musical entertainment will feature Nassau’s own Bavarian Barons, a traditional German brass band founded in the village over 50 years ago. With a lively program of polkas, waltzes and marches the group has a long history of entertaining the public throughout New York and New England.

Admission is free and will take place under tents rain or shine. Guests may bring their own lawn chairs if they wish. For additional information go to www.Nassau12123.com or call (518) 766-2291.

Glendora Vegetarian Club

Folks, Glendora would like to see you live until 91 years old without medicine or doctors. I think you might if you go vegan. We wish you grace and peace.

Last night the Glendora Vegetarian Club enjoyed salubrious eating at the new vegan restaurant, Berben and Wolff, located at 156 Fourth St. in Troy. Meet us there the last Wednesday of October.

Our vegan textbook Vegan Living sends you a message: “When you become aware that there is much needless animal suffering going on in the world and you become determined that you will no longer contribute to it, you have already taken the first step in bringing your compassion to the next level.” We have vegan starter kits. Would you like one? If so, contact Glendora at achatwithglendora@nullgmail.com.

The Glendora Vegetarian Club continues on CBS Channel 6 the first and third weeks

of every month during the 6:30 p.m. news to radiate the glory of veganism for people, animals and the earth. When all is said and done, the only thing that really matters is how you treat others. Animals are others.

Glendora’s Jokes:

1. If they have cars that talk and if they have bathroom scales that talk, why can’t they invent a washing machine that can talk and tell you what it did with the other sock.

2. A couple had a car that broke down so often her dad bought them the perfect vehicle: a tow truck.

3. Teenagers brighten up a home; they never turn out the lights.

4. Why was the baby shoe crying? His mother was a sneak and his daddy was a loafer.

5. The co-ed was asked, “What are your favorite sports?”

She answered, “The ones who spend their money and go home early.”
