Monthly Breakfast at VFW Post 1938

Monthly breakfast at the VFW Post 1938, Poplar Avenue, Valley Falls, NY on Sunday, June 9th, from 8-11 a.m. Menu includes eggs cooked to order, French toast, pancakes, sausage, bacon, toast, potatoes, biscuits with sausage gravy, fruit, juice and coffee. Cost is $8 (age 13 and over), $4 (children 5-12), free (children under 5).

 

Annual Strawberry Festival

Come join the Greenbush Reformed Church for an evening of music, fun, fellowship and food at our annual Strawberry Festival, Thursday, June 20th, starting at 6:30 pm till 9:00 pm.  If God blesses us with good weather, we will gather outside of our Christian Education Building at 14 Hays Road, East Greenbush.  Rain won’t dampen our spirits as we will move our celebration to Chilton Hall, inside our Christian Education Building.  For many years, this wonderful festival has been a tradition in our church as we celebrate God’s bounty of the local strawberry season in June.  In addition to strawberry shortcake, with or without ice cream, and beverages, the local Yankee Doodle Band will perform for us starting at 7:00pm.  The Yankee Doodle Band’s music is made up of talented musicians and their style of music is enjoyed by everyone from the very young children to the young-at-heart.  We look forward to seeing you there!

 

Eat Smart – Live Strong Demonstration

Rensselaer County’s Everett Wagar Senior Center, 2 Roxborough Rd, Grafton, will host Jillian Ludwig, Community Nutrition Educator with Cornell Cooperative Extension for our monthly Eat Smart – Live Strong cooking demonstration on Wednesday, June 12th, at 11:00. There will be free recipes and samples for everyone who attends. Plan to stay for lunch (Liver Fiesta w/Bacon) at noon followed by games. Call to sign up for lunch at 518-279-3413.

 

June Special Luncheon

The Hoosick Falls Senior Center, 69 Church Street, will host a Special Luncheon (Chicken Pattie) for residents 60 and over on Thursday, June 13, 2019, at noon. The center will have music entertainment by Phil Weilewinski following lunch. All residents 60 and older are invited to attend this free entertainment. Birthday Celebration/ Trivia

Rensselaer County’s Everett Wagar Senior Center, 2 Roxborough Road, Grafton NY will celebrate the June birthdays on Friday, June 14th, at 12:30. Join us for a nutritious lunch at noon (tuna salad w lettuce) for a suggested donation of $3.00. There will be cake followed by a game of trivia and Bingo. Sand Lake Baptist Church Strawberry Festival

Come join us for our annual Strawberry Festival at Sand Lake Baptist Church on Saturday, June 22nd, from 1-5pm. We will be selling strawberry shortcake, strawberry sundaes, as well as baked goods. All strawberries have been locally grown and freshly picked at Swartz’s Farm. Bring your appetite. We hope to see you there!

Knights of Columbus “Father’s Day” Breakfast

Join us for the monthly K of C “All-You-Can-Eat” Pancake breakfast on Sunday, June 16th, from 8am -11am in Damman Hall to celebrate Father’s Day!

Also, 4 Tri-City Valley Cats tickets including food will be raffled off! All Dads get one free chance!

Plus, a volunteer with access to commercial genealogy services will be onsite to help you learn about your ancestry.

Chicken Barbecue

The Valley Falls United Methodist Church is holding a takeout only chicken barbecue on Saturday, June 8. The menu includes chicken, pasta salad, baked beans, a roll, and a brownie. Pick-up will be at the church, 16 State Street, Valley Falls, between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.  Tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for children ages 6-12.  Call 518-541-3039 for reservations and information.

Free Community Dinners

The second Thursday of every month a free community dinner is served in the city of Rensselaer from 3:30 to 6:30.

In an ecumenical partnership, Hope Lutheran Church of North Greenbush, and Rensselaer Presbyterian Church, 34 Broadway, have combined and created Hopes Kitchen.

Thursday, June 13th, dinner will be Meat Loaf, Mashed Potatoes, Corn, Hawaiian Rolls, Coffee, Tea, Water, plus Strawberry Shortcake for Dessert, and it’s all free!

A recent addition to these efforts, students from the Rensselaer Middle School have volunteered to work as food servers. These young people bring a sense of commitment and dedication to the work. We are very thankful to have their assistance.

 

4-H Giffy BBQ

Friday, June 7th – Giffy Chicken BBQ Fundraiser at Capital Agway, located at 1333 NY State Hwy 7, east of Troy.  This fundraiser is coordinated by and to benefit the Rensselaer County 4-H Teen Exchange.  Take out dinners are $12 each and include ½ chicken, coleslaw, baked potato, roll, drink and cookie.  Reservations are strongly suggested to help assure a dinner is available to you.  For reservations, please call 518-421-2360.

Strawberry Festival

Join us for the annual strawberry festival at Grace Methodist Church, Nassau.

Enjoy fresh strawberries, homemade biscuits, and real whipped cream while listening to music from the community band.  Our train room will be open for tours and we’ll have crafts for the kids.  Join us for this Nassau tradition. Shortcake will be served rain or shine!

“An Evening with the Old Lions” Dinner & Show

The Knickerbocker Mansion will be hosting “An Evening with the Old Lions” on June 15, 2019 at 6:00 PM.

We start at 6:00 PM with a Chicken Parmigiana dinner.

At 7:00 PM, we will join President Teddy Roosevelt and Booker T. Washington as they reminisce about their deeply controversial 1901 meeting in the White House.

Dinner Fundraiser for Justin

On Sunday, June 9th, 2019, at 2 PM, Friends and Family members of Justin’s Army, especially, Steve and Jude Chiera, are hosting a Fundraising Dinner, at the Latham-Colonie Knights of Columbus Council at 328 Troy-Schenectady Road, Latham, N.Y. 12110.

Justin is experiencing serious health issues and is unable to continue working.  He has a young family including three children.

The Fundraiser will assist in family and medical expenses and much needed emotional support during his treatment!

A donation of $25 per person includes your Choice of Entrée; Roast Sirloin of Beef or Baked Stuffed Chicken.

Justin’s Favorite Drink will be featured as well as a 50/50!

Lasagna Dinner

Van Rensselaer Star Chapter #256, Order of the Eastern Star, is hosting a Lasagna Dinner on Saturday, June 15th, from 4:30 to 6 pm at the East Greenbush Masonic Temple, 710 Columbia Turnpike, East Greenbush. The proceeds from this dinner will benefit the Masonic Medical Research Institute for the study of Lupus.
