Sand Lake Senior Club

The Sand Lake Seniors meet on the second Thursday at noon of each month at the Averill Park/Sand Lake Firehouse. 

The August 11th meeting is BYOL (Bring Your Own Lunch) and dessert will be provided as well as coffee, lemonade, and tea. If you intend on attending the SLS Picnic on the 18th of August the payment is due by the August 11 meeting; see Kathy Schreiner-Smith with your check payable to Sand Lake Seniors for your ticket. 

The lunch outing to Kay’s on September 7th will also need to be paid via check to Sand Lake Seniors. See Rosemary Stahlman at the meeting with any questions.

Rensselaer County Troy Senior Center Lake George Picnic

The Troy Senior Center is hosting a picnic in Lake George, August 11th. 

We will be serving hamburgers, hotdogs, salads and watermelon in the picnic area. There will be games and a 1 hour boat ride on the Minne Ha-Ha. We thank CDPHP for their generous sponsorship of a Wade Tours Charter Bus to help make this trip possible. 

Cost is $35, this includes the boat ride and lunch. Call 518-270-5348 for reservations or information.

Annual Northern Tier Picnic

The Hoosick Falls Senior Center and Grafton’s Everett Wagar Senior Center will host the Annual Northern Tier Senior Picnic, which will be held at the St. Stanislaw Pavilion on Mechanic Street in Hoosick Falls from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm. All county residents 60 and over are encouraged to attend. Bring a covered dish to share. Hot dogs and beverage will be provided. We will have games, Bingo, prizes, awards, and special music by one of our favorites, Bob Treffiletti. 

Sponsors that help to make this event possible each year include CDPHP, Humana, Highmark (BSNENY), MVP and Fidelis. Representatives for each company will be attending the picnic.

Grafton Senior Center News

Rensselaer County’s Everett Wagar Senior Center, 2 Roxborough Rd, Cropseyville, will be open with limited hours. State and County Guidelines will be posted and must be followed at all times. The center is now open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 to 3:00 with congregate lunch and activities. Mondays and Fridays the center will be open 9:30 to 11:00 for our 10:00 Chair Yoga class. On Tuesdays, there will be Senior Yoga Plus class at 10:00. Both are low impact classes that ALL seniors can do at their own pace. 

July 28th we will have Movie Day with Root Beer Floats following lunch. August 2nd is the Grafton Senior Meeting at 11:15. All residents 60 and over should plan to attend and give ideas for events and activities at the center. August 9th is the monthly birthday celebration with trivia. August 16th is Special Luncheon day with music by John Hill. August 18th the Senior Center will be close so all can attend the Northern Tier Senior Picnic at the St. Stanislaw in Hoosick Falls. 

Congregate lunch is served at the senior center Tuesdays and Thursdays at noon for a suggested donation of $3. Grab-n-Go meals are also available on Tuesday and Thursday. Please call early to be added to the lunch list at (518) 279-3413 so we can be sure to have enough food pre-pared.

Attention Seniors

The Southern Tier Senior Center located at 1800 East Schodack Road in Castleton, is pleased to announce that our special Dinner this month will be on Thursday July 28th 2022. The Menu includes Prime Rib Burger With French Onion Gravy, Buttery Mashed Potatoes, Broccoli Florets, And wheat bread. For Dessert We will be having Cake and Ice Cream!!

After lunch we will be entertained by the very popular Gone Gray Band. We are sure to have a great time! 

As always we offer the following activities: Monday-Chair Yoga, Tuesday- Game Day, Wednesday- Exercise Class, and Fridays -Darts. We have some good news: BINGO will start Tuesday August 30th after lunch at 12:45 pm!!

East Side Seniors

On July 20,th, our monthly meeting was held, and dessert served. We elected Lynn Gould, Pres., Helen Skiba Vice pres., Carolee Jasiewicz, Treas., and Kathy Dwyer, Sec.. 

We are looking forward to a welcoming and helpful group. Our next meeting will be on August 9th, 1:00 , at The American Legion Post, Wynantskill. At this meeting we will pick Bocci teams t0 start SEPT.12th. All are welcome to join, BUT must be present at the meeting to be able to play or be a sub. 

Dessert will be served and games of chioce will be played. Hope to see you all at the meeting.

Senior Bowlers Wanted!

The Rensselaer Senior Center Bowling League is looking for new senior bowlers for the upcoming 2022-23 season starting on Tuesday, Sept. 6th. 

We bowl every Tuesday starting at noon for 27 weeks at the East Greenbush Bowling Center on Columbia Turnpike. Individuals have to be 60 years or older to join the Rennselaer Senior Center. This is a fun, relaxed, no-pressure bowling league. All bowlers are welcomed from beginners to experts.

Bingo Prizes Needed

You Have Been Unbelievable in bringing in jewelry gift boxes. We have filled and donated approximately 35 boxes. 

We are now looking for clip on earrings and over the head necklaces to fill the beautiful gift boxes remaining. We could also use magnetic jewelry for our seniors in the nursing home. Anything easy to put on by themselves. If you are looking for a rewarding experience become a volunteer or sponsor a show for our less fortunate seniors.

August 16th 1977 was a very sad day for many people throughout the world. “The Day Elvis Died” Or Did He?” Join the Rensselaer County

Senior Center Tuesday, August 16th 2022 as we celebrate Elvis Presley’s life with “Donny Elvis.” Lunch is served at noon and consists of Sausage, Peppers and Onions w/ pasta and a special birthday cake w/ ice cream (Celebrating Donny Elvis’s Birthday). Happy Birthday Billie Labrie; 90yrs Young Thursday August 25th

Billie is a remarkable lady. She never misses line dancing and always dances in her heels. A fashion statement wherever she goes. She’s very proud of her Irish heritage, loves her lap dog Mazie her beautiful Great Dane and a cup of tea! We are planning a afternoon of good food, conversation and dancing to Paul Slusar the “One Man Band”. We guarantee a good time! Menu consists of Chicken Marsala, Baked Potato, Broccoli and Billie’s favorite cake w/ Stewarts Ice Cream. Call to make a reservation. Suggested contribution for lunch is $3. No one is denied a meal in due to inability to contribute.

Hoosick Area Seniors announce Senior Bus Trip

The Hoosick Area Seniors have planned a bus trip on Monday, August 15, 2022 to Vermont. The bus will go to the Woodstock General Store where you can find everything from soup to nuts just like the old days, VINS Nature Center, lunch at Pizza Chef of Quechee, Simon Pearce Factory of Glass Blowing, and Billings Farm and Museum. The bus will leave Hoosick Falls TOPS at 7:00 and return around 6:30.

Cost for the trip is $45 which includes the bus, lunch, entrance to the museum and entrance to VINS. Hoosick deadline is July 22. All others must be signed up by July 29. Money is due at signup. Please call Julie for reservations at (518) 686-7561. Money is due at the time of sign-up.

The Community’s Help Is Needed Again

The Rensselaer County Senior Center is putting together bingo prizes for our nursing homes. We are in need of jewelry gift boxes for earrings, necklaces and bracelets. Having the jewelry in boxes makes it look so much nicer. We want to thank everyone that donated their jewelry and other items to our boutique. Your generosity has made it possible for us to support senior programs and donate some beautiful jewelry for bingo gifts. Thank You So Much !!!

Card Game Thursdays

Thursdays at the Rensselaer County Senior Center there is Pinochle games. Like to play pinochle? Join us for lunch and a card game or two. This is great mental stimulation and a good time. Good News, Grab and Go Lunch is Available Five Days a Week

RENSSELAER – The Rensselaer County Rensselaer Senior Center are offering nutritious meals Monday through Friday. Pickup is at 11:30. 

Please call the day before to order your lunch and enjoy a hot homemade meal 5 times a week. 

Must be 60 years old to participate in this great program. Suggested contribution is $3 per meal. No one is denied a meal due to inability to contribute. Call 518-463-2166 for more information. Located on East and Herrick Streets.
