Glendora Vegeterian Club

Veganism is a growing movement in the U.S. and around the world. Norma Nazish in her article for Forbes Life, states that transitioning to a vegan lifestyle is not an overnight proposition. She outlines the process suggested by nutritionist Julieanna Hever.

1. Start slow. Focus on a few plant based meals you already enjoy and rotate them through the week.

2. Cut down on animal products and processed food by changing the proportion of these foods on your plate.

3. Enjoy plant based breakfasts – e.g., oatmeal, toast, smoothies – then broaden your vegan meals to include lunch, dinner and snacks.

4. Watch your protein. Hever states that the average protein we require is about 1 gram per kilogram of body weight, and … there is plenty of protein in plants to meet all requirements. She also notes that most of the “faux” meats and cheeses often contain ingredients that are detrimental to health; it is best to stick to whole, “intact” foods.

5. Keep meals fun and interesting. Focus on the ones you like, and explore recipes that are available in vegan cookbooks and on vegan websites.

Glendora’s take on this issue: Go vegan now. Do not procrastinate!

Jokes

1. A youth taking an exam to work on the dam was asked, “What does ‘hydrodynamics’ mean?” The youth answered, “It means I don’t get the job.”

2. Harry to God: How much is a million dollars to you?  God: Ten dollars.

Harry: How long is a million years to you?  God: One second.

Harry: May I have ten dollars?  God: One second.

3. Did you ever get the money you loaned that man for a facelift? No, I can’t find him. I don’t know what he looks like.

4. A man said he thought blonds have better dispositions than redheads or brunettes. His friend said, “My wife has been all three, and I can’t see any difference.”
