Oakwood Cemetery Family Christmas Concert

Saturday, December 8, 1pm; Snow Date:  Sunday, Dec. 9, 1pm; $10.00 per Family.

Come enjoy the beauty of the Earl Chapel* and its excellent acoustics as you listen to some seasonal carols by the Highlight Acting Troupe.  Sing along with your favorites, sip some cocoa or cider and nibble on Christmas cookies provided by the Friends of Oakwood. Delight in the clever decorations created by the Halfmoon Button Club. Chances are there will even be a “surprise” visitor. Ho Ho Ho!

AWANA Kids Club

AWANA is a Christian kids club mixing fun games and activities with thoughtful devotions and Bible memorization. Open to preschool children through grade six, meeting Wednesdays, 6-8pm, at Brunswick Church, 42 White Church Lane (off Rt. 351). Vendor & Craft Fair

Join Hope 7 at the Italian Community Center, 1450 5th Ave, Troy, for our annual vendor/craft fair, Saturday, December 1st, from 9-3pm. This event will feature over 50 vendors and crafters for all of your holiday shopping needs. There will be a variety of raffles, 50/50, free admission, bake sale & ample parking. The ICC will have food available for purchase. The first 100 shoppers through the door will be entered in a special raffle drawing. Proceeds from this event will benefit Hope 7 Community Center’s food pantry.

 

Holiday Bazaar

Center Brunswick United Methodist Church, located at 990 Hoosick Rd., is having a Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, December 1st, from 10am to 6pm. There will be crafts, baked goods, inflatables, artificial trees and decorations for sale as well as gift tables of great gift ideas. Lunch items will be available. FAMACHA and Parasite Workshop

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Rensselaer County will be offering a FAMACHA and Parasite Workshop on Saturday, December 8th, from 9am-12pm, at the CCE office in Troy (61 state Street. It will be instructed by Jason Detzel, CCE Ulster County and Kayela Statom, CCE Rensselaer County.

In this workshop producers will be taught the basics of parasite control as well as how to develop integrated parasite management programs for their farms. As part of this workshop we will also have a hands-on training on how to use the FAMACHA Anemia Guide (good only for the barber pole worm) health exams to determine the need for de-worming, and fecal egg counts. Attendees are encouraged to bring a refrigerated fecal sample of 8 to 10 fecal pellets in a baggie from one sheep or goat at your farm. Also, for the purpose of biosecurity please wear clean clothes and shoes to the workshop and plan to change them prior to working on your own farm.

Ilium Literary Club Meeting

The Ilium Literary Club of Troy will hold its monthly meeting at 1:30 PM on Friday, 12/7/18, at the Troy Masonic Community Center, 39 Brunswick Rd, Troy. This will be our annual Christmas Tea.  Our guest speaker will be Margaret Story who will present the Story of Christmas Pins.  Members and guests are invited to wear your favorite Christmas Pin.

 

 

Great Latke Festival

Sunday, December 2nd, from 2pm till 4pm, Beth Tephilah Synagogue, located at 82 River St, Troy, will be having the second annual Great Latke Festival featuring exotic latkes from around the world! This year some of the varieties are The Canadian Cranberry Latke, the American Apple Pie Latke, The Mexican Hot Salsa Latke, The Russian Onion Latke, The Indian Curry Latke, The Israeli Falafel Latke, The Sweet Pepper Latke, The Chinese Sweet and Sour Latke, the Spanish Olive Latke and voted the best tasting of them all, the Chocolate-Peanut Butter Latke. These are not just toppings on the Latkes, but hand crafted in to each latke itself! We will also feature make your special donut with many different toppings! Arts and crafts activities for children will be available. Admission is free, but donations are always welcome. After the party, A Menorah Lighting ceremony will take place with several dignitaries of Troy including the Honorable Mayor Patrick Madden at Monument Square in downtown Troy, just a few blocks from Beth Tephilah Synagogue.
