Literature and Landscapes
In this class, led by artist Joy Ting, participants will read and discuss poetry and short stories, and then, create colorful and expressive landscape art using a variety of mixed media.
The class will be held at the Lansingburgh Library on Tuesday, November 19th, 4:30-6:30.
The class will run again at the Troy Public Library on Tuesday, November 26th, 5:30-7:30.

Hope 7 Holiday Vendor & Craft Fair
Join Hope 7 at Franklin Terrace Ballroom, 126 Campbell Ave, Troy, on November 24th, from 11AM-4PM, for our annual vendor & craft fair. This event will have over 70 crafters & vendors for all of your holiday shopping needs. The first 100 shoppers through the door get entered into a special door prize drawing. There will also be a variety of raffles, 50/50, bake sale, free admission & free parking. Proceeds from this event to benefit Hope 7’s food pantry. Calligraphy Class With Sarah Gabler
In the workshop we are going to be taking a quote from a book, or a poem and using creative and expressive lettering to make the words come alive with watercolor and colored pens. This class is free and all materials will be provided, but registration is required. This workshop will take place at the Troy Public Library -Lansingburgh Branch on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 4:30 – 6:30 pm.

Stephen King-inspired short films at HVCC
All are welcome to attend the Dollar Baby Film Festival: Short Films Based on Short Works by Stephen King on Friday, Nov. 22 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Bulmer Telecommunications Auditorium on the Troy campus. The free event closes out the college’s Cultural Affairs Program’s fall 2019 schedule of events.
A Dollar Baby is born when Stephen King allows a fledgling filmmaker to film one of his short works for just $1, as he’s done since 1977. The festival is a rare opportunity to view short King-inspired films, including the Capital Region premier of local author and filmmaker Bryan Higby’s “Here There Be Tygers.” The 11-minute film is a liberating tale from the viewpoint of a child who sees tigers in the school restroom that was filmed on the Hudson Valley campus in March 2019.
The film festival also will include: “Paranoid” (Jay Holben, 2000, 8 min.), known to be a favorite of Stephen King; “Unmeny’s Last Case,” (Rodney Altman, 2006, 18 min.), a 1930s private detective’s life unravels; “I Know What You Need” (Shawn S. Lealos, 2005, 33 min.), a young woman is suspicious about a friend’s “too good
to be true” new boyfriend. A Q&A with Bryan Higby will follow the films.

Thanksgiving Pop-Up Tours at Oakwood National Historic Landmark – Saturday Nov. 30
Do you have out of town guests coming for Thanksgiving? Are you wondering how you’ll entertain them after you’ve done all the turkey dinner and Black Friday stuff? Here’s your chance to impress them with something completely different!
The Friends of Oakwood Cemetery will offer guided tours of the Gardner Earl Memorial Chapel & Crematorium at 1pm and 2pm on Saturday November 30th for just $10. per person. Each tour will be limited to 40 people.
The castle-like Earl Chapel is a National Historic Landmark, boasting an interior of Victorian splendor including spectacular stained-glass windows, oak carvings and marble mosaics. You’ll hear the brief story of the young man who inspired this gorgeous building and you’ll see why it is a popular venue for intimate weddings as well as social events, memorials and funerals. The Oakwood Avenue (Route 40) entrance is a short drive from Route 7East (Hoosick Street) in Troy. The Friends of Oakwood is a non-profit volunteer group working to support the preservation and maintenance of the non-sectarian chapel and grounds of this still-active historic 19th C. cemetery. The chapel is handicapped-accessible.

Invisible Cities Mixed Media Workshop
Join us at the Troy Public Library where artist and instructor Sarah Nenno Bowen will be hosting a two-part workshop in two-hour sessions at the Troy Public Library on
Wednesdays December 11 & 18 at 5:30 to 7:30 PM. Each session will be led by an excerpt from the book “Invisible Cities” by Italo Calvino, and each session will have its own excerpt. Read and respond to this piece of literature with the use of materials such as paint, paper, graphite, markers, and more to create a mixed media masterpiece. Register in person, online, or by phone.

Highlight Acting Troupe Presents The Christmas Carol
Highlight Acting Troupe presents The Christmas Carol, adapted and abridged by Harold G. Sliker. This is a play based on Charles Dickens’ heartwarming story of a supernatural life-changing experience. Ebenezer Scrooge, an elderly miser is visited by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come. Come see Scrooge transformed into a kinder, gentler man. Performances take place at the Brunswick Grange, 7 Grange Road in Troy, NY.
