Lansingburgh Historical Society Annual Holiday Party and Talk
Lansingburgh Historical Society’s Annual Holiday party,talk and raffle will be Thursday, November 21, 2019 once again at the Van Schaick Country Club 201 Continental Ave., Cohoes, NY 12047. “The Anti Rent Strikers of the 1800’s” will be presented by well known and lively historian speaker, Michael Barrett at 7:00 pm. Dinner at 5:30 by reservation only to Max 410 at The Van Schaick Country Club, 518-237-0145. Basket raffles, 50-50 and a raffle of beautiful Holiday Dishes to follow. Yoga Program –Troy Public Library
The Troy Public Library’s Lansingburgh Branch in conjunction with the Troy YMCA, will offer Yoga classes on Wednesdays, October 16th – November 20th at 5:30PM. This is an all-level yoga class that will invigorate your body and reduce stress. You will experience traditional yoga poses, stretching, breathing and relaxation techniques which will improve your flexibility, balance, strength and overall wellness. Please bring your own mat.

When eight-year-old Elsa and her oft-absent mother move into the apartment next to Julien, an ornery butterfly collector, the persistent and curious Elsa adopts the reluctant old man as her surrogate grandpa. Center Brunswick Fire Company – Holiday Vendor and Craft Fair
Join us Saturday, November 16th at the Center Brunswick Fire House, 1045 Hoosick Road, Center Brunswick (across from the Town Offices), from 9AM-2PM, for our Holiday Vendor & Craft Fair. This event will feature many local crafters and vendors for your holiday shopping needs. There will also be raffles, 50/50, bake sale, free admission and parking. Our Special Connections workshop Learning from our loved ones
Beth Tephilah Synagogue, located on 82 River Street in Troy, will be having a special workshop Sunday, November 17th at 1 p.m. called “Our Special Connections”. Each person will be given the opportunity to share their life lessons about their loved ones who passed away. Everyday corresponds to a unique portion of the Torah and the day of passing of a person shows on the completion of all that person’s efforts of their lifetime. In this workshop we will compare the unique portion of the Torah for the day of passing of a particular loved one and see how that Torah portion can shed light on the lessons of that person’s lifetime. In addition to the workshop there will be served a vegan soup cafe with a variety of different gluten free soups and flatbreads some of the breads will be gluten-free as well. Different unique vegetable toppings , a spinach quinoa salad along with special herbal teas will also be served. All the foods are made with very little sugar or salt or oil and are very flavorful. Literature and Landscapes
In this class, led by artist Joy Ting, participants will read and discuss poetry and short stories, and then, create colorful and expressive landscape art using a variety of mixed media.

Hope 7 Holiday Vendor & Craft Fair
Join Hope 7 at Franklin Terrace Ballroom, 126 Campbell Ave, Troy, on November 24th, from 11AM-4PM, for our annual vendor & craft fair. Calligraphy Class With Sarah Gabler
In the workshop we are going to be taking a quote from a book, or a poem and using creative and expressive lettering to make the words come alive with watercolor and colored pens. This class is free and all materials will be provided, but registration is required. This workshop will take place at the Troy Public Library -Lansingburgh Branch on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 4:30 – 6:30 pm.

Thanksgiving Pop-Up Tours at Oakwood National Historic Landmark – Saturday Nov. 30
Do you have out of town guests coming for Thanksgiving? Are you wondering how you’ll entertain them after you’ve done all the turkey dinner and Black Friday stuff? Here’s your chance to impress them with something completely different!
The Friends of Oakwood Cemetery will offer guided tours of the Gardner Earl Memorial Chapel & Crematorium at 1pm and 2pm on Saturday November 30th for just $10. per person. Children under 12 are Free. Registration is not required but is preferred. Please call 518-328-0090 with desired tour time, name, phone, email and number of people. Each tour will be limited to 40 people.
The castle-like Earl Chapel is a National Historic Landmark, boasting an interior of Victorian splendor including spectacular stained-glass windows, oak carvings and marble mosaics. You’ll hear the brief story of the young man who inspired this gorgeous building and you’ll see why it is a popular venue for intimate weddings as well as social events, memorials and funerals. You’ll even have the option to take a peek into one of the old cremation retorts! For Google map directions use 186 Oakwood Avenue, Troy. The Oakwood Avenue (Route 40) entrance is a short drive from Route 7East (Hoosick Street) in Troy. The Friends of Oakwood is a non-profit volunteer group working to support the preservation and maintenance of the non-sectarian chapel and grounds of this still-active historic 19th C. cemetery. The chapel is handicapped-accessible.

Join us at the Troy Public Library where artist and instructor Sarah Nenno Bowen will be hosting a two-part workshop in two-hour sessions at the Troy Public Library on
Wednesdays December 11 & 18 at 5:30 to 7:30 PM. Each session will be led by an excerpt from the book “Invisible Cities” by Italo Calvino, and each session will have its own excerpt. Read and respond to this piece of literature with the use of materials such as paint, paper, graphite, markers, and more to create a mixed media masterpiece. Register in person, online, or by phone.
