Public Chapel Tours August 30Th At Oakwood
The Friends of Oakwood Cemetery will offer tours of the Gardner Earl Chapel on Friday August 30th at 2pm and 3pm for $10. per person, payable on arrival by cash or check. Children under 12 are free. Advance registration for these tours is not required. The Earl Chapel is handicap accessible.
The 19th C. chapel is a National Historic Landmark, known for its spectacular stained glass windows and for its opulent interior of mosaics, marble, onyx and carved oak. Come and hear the story of the young man who inspired this amazing building. We’ll take a peek into one of the old cremation retorts too. This date also happens to be August Troy Night Out, so why not start your evening early with our one hour tour? You’ll have plenty to talk about afterwards.
The Friends of Oakwood is a 501(c)3 non-profit volunteer group working to support the preservation and maintenance of the non-sectarian chapel and grounds of Troy’s still-active historic 19th C. Oakwood Cemetery. New volunteers are always welcome.

The Troy Public Library will offer Guided Meditation Classes on Tuesdays, September 3rd – October 29th from 5PM – 6PM.
Learn a surprisingly simple yet powerful practice that can help your reduce stress, get recharged, experience overall improved physical health and possibly get you “blissed-out” all while sitting comfortably in a chair. PTSD & Trauma Disorders
Understanding the trauma spectrum, trauma in popular culture, and how to support loved ones who may be struggling
PTSD is a frequent topic in the news and media. But what is “trauma?” How does it affect our brains, relationships, and behavior? Wednesday, September 4th, at 6:00 pm, come to the Troy Public Library and learn about the myths and realities of trauma disorders, including the history of PTSD, treatment, and how you can help yourself or loved ones move past major events. A Q&A session follows.
About the presenter: Quinn Austin-Small, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist with over 20 years’ experience in mental health and education. Prior to founding Austin-Small Consulting, he managed community mental health programs in California, Massachusetts, and New York. Dr. Austin-Small has a passion for community education and engaging the public in understanding psychology.

Annual Library Election and Budget Vote on September 5
East Greenbush — East Greenbush Community Library Annual District election will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2018 from 9 A.M. to 9 P.M. at the library. The Board has adopted a proposed budget to maintain library services with additional funds from the Friends and the library fund balance to minimize the impact on the East Greenbush taxpayer. The total proposed budget is $2,136,548, which is 1.5% increase and under the NYS Property Tax Cap. The total taxable value has increased approximately 2.9%. This will result in taxes staying relatively flat. The proposed levy from East Greenbush this year is $1,721,454. The estimated cost will be $0.91 per assessed $1,000 of property, which is the same as 2019. Cost to the taxpayer with a house assessed at $200,000 would be approximately $182. The fund balance has moneys saved from 2018 and past years. The 2020 budget seeks to maintain our library’s standards while we await relief from our Bond payment. Non-tax subsidies include a fund balance transfer ($23,481) and a gift from the Friends for materials ($15,000). In 2021, the library Bond will be paid-off (approx. $285,000 yearly).

A second proposal on the ballot is the election of one position on the Library’s Board of Trustees for a five-year term, beginning January 1, 2020. French Course
La Fédération Franco-Américaine du NY will be offering a beginners French course. Dr. Janet L. Shideler, Professor of French at Siena College will be the instructor. In addition to beginners, this class will also be for anyone who has taken a beginners course in the past, and wishes to improve their French. The cost of the course will be $70 for 8 sessions beginning September 5, 2019. The classes will be held on Thursday evenings from 6:30pm to 7:30pm at Siena College. Play Music On The Porch Day
The annual international Play Music on the Porch Day invites musicians and communities to revive the tradition of gathering, singing, and playing music outside with friends and family. Area musicians are invited to celebration this year’s event at the Schodack Town Park Pavilion on August 31st from 4 p.m. ‘til dusk. It will be a pot luck event and we will provide water, iced tea, and coffee. This event is hosted by Schodack Folk Sessions, as in years past, and features an open mic and group jam singalongs, as well as a fiddle tune jam tent for those interested.
All are welcome, so if your idea of a good time is to enjoy the company of other musicians, express yourself musically, and to play and sing favorites and folk standards along with this enthusiastic folk music community on the banks of the beautiful Moordener Kill, please consider joining us.
It is a potluck, so food and drink items you’d like to bring and share are welcome. There is also a barbecue pit for grilling. Bring instruments, voices, neighbors, family and friends, along with Rise Up Singing or Rise Again songbooks, if you have them.

Town Hall Closes for Labor Day Holiday
Debra L. Curtis, Schodack Town Clerk, wishes to remind residents that the Schodack Town Clerk’s Office will be closed Saturday, August 31, 2019 and the Schodack Town Offices and Highway Department will be closed on Monday, September 2, 2019. The Schodack Town Hall Offices and Highway Department will resume its regular business hours on Tuesday, September 3, 2019.
The Transfer Station will resume its regular business hours on Wednesday, September 4, 2019.

The Hoosick Falls Senior Center, 69 Church Street, will host will host Jillian Ludwig, Community Nutrition Educator with Cornell Cooperative Extension for our monthly Eat Smart – Live Strong cooking demonstration on Tuesday, September 3 at 11:00. The Town of Pittstown Seniors meet the first Wednesday of the month. Our next meeting is September 4, 2019. We meet at the Raymertown Volunteer Fire Dept on Mason Lane in Raymertown. Meeting begins at 11:45 with a covered dish luncheon and business meeting follows.

Grafton Fitness Opportunities
Rensselaer County’s Everett Wagar Senior Center, 2 Roxborough Road, Grafton, has several opportunities to keep our residents 60 and older in shape. Chair Yoga is offered 3 times a week at no charge. This is a low-impact workout for the body and mind. Aerobic Swimming is available on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at the Bennington Rec Center with transportation. Water aerobics offers a resistance and buoyancy that cannot be experienced on ground. The center has a small exercise room with a treadmill and stationary bikes. Regular exercise reduces the risk of injury, decreased symptoms of depression, and improves mobility. Regular exercise can lower blood pressure, strengthen muscles, correct body posture, relieve pain and promotes weight loss. Residents 60 and older are encouraged to get into a good exercise routine.
