Celebrate Stephentown 2019

The third annual edition of Stephentown, New York’s annual town-wide community festival, is coming Friday, August 16th through Sunday, August 18th.

This year’s schedule features a diverse range of more than 25 events at 20 different locations throughout the weekend, including open houses, demonstrations, food, music, hikes, kids activities, a car show, an interactive tour of a working farm, a rail trail race, an exhibition of award-winning Vietnam War photos and more.

Produced by a coalition of Stephentown’s farms, businesses, churches and service organizations, Celebrate Stephentown 2019 is made possible by the generous support of our Festival Sponsors, Four Fat Fowl, XCA and Zwack, Inc., and our Supporting Sponsors, Fat Body Customs, Screen-It, LTD., The Berry Patch and The Eastwick Press.

Eleganz on Elm

The highlight of Nassau’s Bicentennial year will be Eleganz on Elm, scheduled for Saturday, August 17 between the hours of 3 – 7 pm. Taking place on the lawns of three adjacent historic properties on Elm Street, the porches of each home will provide the setting for three musical groups – “Swing Shift,” “Red Dirt Highway” and “Hillbilly Boxcar.” All performing acoustically with a diverse selection of jazz, big band, folk, bluegrass and blues styles, the public is invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy the entertainment on the shady lawns of 18, 20 and 22 Elm Street.

A menu of world flavor street foods will be available and include grilled shrimp in a stick, Mediterranean falafel, fresh beet salad with goat cheese and grilled sweet corn with a selection of sauces. Suitable and festive beverages will also be offered. On-street parking will be available on the west side of Elm Street. Jazz On The Hill

Featuring New York Voices, August 17:  Join us for the next big event hosted by St. Peter Armenian Church (100 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet) — the return of “Jazz on the Hill.”  We will be honored with the musical talent of renowned jazz ensemble The New York Voices, featuring our own hometown girl Kim Nazarian Ashby.  The concert will be held under the church’s Postoian Pavilion, rain or shine, on Saturday, August 17, starting at 6:30pm.  Tickets are $35 for adults age 21 and over; $25 for ages 6 to 20; FREE for children ages 5 and younger.  Adults can enjoy a complimentary wine tasting (proper ID required).  Appetizers and soft drinks will also be available to purchase.  Consider bringing a lawn chair as seating under the pavilion will be limited.   Purchase your tickets by calling Marion Kehrer at (518) 461-9325.

Town of Nassau Family Fun Day

The Youth Committee of the Town of Nassau is holding a Family Fun Day on August 17th from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Chandler Young Veteran’s Association, 7 Lyons Lake Road, Nassau, NY.  This FREE event will feature food, games, prizes, Native American crafts, bow and arrow and Rhonda’s Reptiles!  We look forward to seeing everybody there.  Follow us at Town of Nassau Youth on Facebook.

Charity Air Show

The Lazy 8 RC Airplane Club of Johnstown will be hosting its 33rd Annual Charity Air Show on Saturday and Sunday August 17 and 18 from 9 to 4. Spectator donation of $5 will go to Warm the Children Program. Show features radio control planes, aerobatic demonstrations, vintage aircraft, helicopters, civilian models and more. Mohawk Hudson Chapter of the Antique Outboard Motor Club Inc.

Announces Their 14th Annual Swap Meet at the Historic Mabee Farm in Rotterdam Junction, NY on Saturday August 17, 2019

Scotia, NY – Current President Michael Glenn announces that the 14th Annual Swap and Formal Meet of the Chapter will be held again this year at the Historic Mabee Farm. The event is planned for August 17, 2017 and will be held on the grounds of the Mabee Farm on Route 5S in Rotterdam Junction, New York. Attendees come from throughout the Northeast as well as local members and the general public is welcome to attend at no cost. There is no admission fee and no fee to display/buy/sell/trade.

The day is planned to begin at 9:00 AM as a casual open air event that is expected to last until 2:00 pm. The event includes the buying, selling and trading of antique and classic outboard motors, boats and related items from attendees/vendors. Additional vendors are welcome at no cost. The general public is welcome. There will be food available for a donation for morning coffee and donuts and lunch at noontime.

The swap meet is held in an Antiques Roadshow type atmosphere and interested parties can get parts, advice and resources for their old outboard motors and boats, as well as an outlet to bring their motors to put them in the hands of a collector who can restore it. There will be judging of motors in several categories.

The Chapter, organized in March of 2005 has experienced growth over the last 14 years.

Cruise on down to the Celebrate Stephentown festival on Saturday, August 17 and check out the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department’s Car Show from 10 AM – 2 PM. Enjoy some delicious chicken BBQ after you have viewed the classic & antique cars and tractors. Walk-ins & spectators attend FREE!

Rensselaer County’s Second Annual Farm Day Out!

Join Cornell Cooperative Extension of Rensselaer County and The Eckhardt Family at Kinderhook Creek Farm from 12-3pm on Sunday, August 18th, for Rensselaer County’s Second Annual Farm Day Out! Kinderhook Creek Farm is an 1150+ acre field crop and vegetable farm that has been owned and operated by the Eckhardt’s since 1959. Once parked, a hay wagon ride will take you through some of the fields at Kinderhook Creek Farm. Through interactive demonstrations you will learn about the different crops (such as hay, grain, sweet corn, and the many vegetables) grown on this farm. You will also see how their farm products get to market and eventually to your family’s table. Also, be sure to visit exhibits set up by local organizations & businesses, experience the equipment used on the farm by the farmers and see the 4-H Club sponsored petting zoo. Food, corn on the cob, ice cold watermelon and other farm fresh foods will be available to purchase for your enjoyment. Admission and parking for this event is free and open to the public. 3rd Annual Friends & Family Community Day

This October the Sand Lake Dog Park (SLDP) and the Open Spaces Committees will be hosting a Howl’een in the Park fundraising event for the future Sand Lake Dog Parkto be located on the Walking Trails property on Eastern Union Turnpike.

We’re looking forward to involving our outdoor enthusiasts, dog lovers, and the community in this wicked healthy day!

Start planning your costume now! The main event is the Dog Costume Paradewith town officials judging various categories. With your $25 donation, you will participate in the parade and be photographed with your pup. (See sign up form on following page)

Greenbush Garden Club Awards Grants

Each year the Greenbush Garden Club awards grant to local schools or community organizations for educational programs and/or community beautification projects, ideally targeted to kids.

This year the Club awarded grants to the Robert C Parker school for a ground cherry garden and to the Green Meadow School for a rock garden.  We wish them every success with these projects.

Money for the grants and the Club’s Garden Therapy program at Van Renesselear Manor is raised at our plant sale which is held in May of each year.

New members are always welcome. The Club meets at the East Greenbush Library.  For the months of September, October and November of this year we will meet on the 2nd Tuesday of the month.  We hope to see you then.

48th Annual Festival Of Nations
