Fiddle Concert with George Wilson at the Troy Public Library
The Troy Public Library is pleased to announce a Fiddle concert to be held Wednesday, July 31st at 6:00PM at the Troy Public Library’s Main location.
A talented, multi-instrumentalist and singer, George Wilson’s repertoire samples a wide variety of traditional and folk styles. As a fiddler, he has over 5– tunes for dancing and listening – tunes from New England, Quebec, Cape Breton, Scotland, Ireland, and Shetland. His dynamic fiddling has been popular with contra dancers and concert-goers since the late 1970’s.
This FREE concert is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by The Arts Center of the Capital Region.

Week 4 – North Chatham Free Library’s Summer Program!
Come join us for our fourth week of fun and activities! Cook Around the World on July 29 with the Garden Club of Kinderhook and make delicious dishes using fruits, vegetables and herbs grown in gardens outside the United States! On July 30 our Binocular Astronomy with Mud Creek Environmental will meet at 8 pm for a short lecture, then it’s off into the night to observe the night stars. Outer Space Sculpture takes the stage on July 31, where we’ll create a unique monument to outer space. Coming up on August 8 we have the STARLAB miSci Planetarium coming to the Tri-Village Fire Company, Station # 1 on 111 Co Rd 13. They’ll be doing five shows from 10 am to 2:30 pm; Seasonal Stargazers, Native American Constellations, Calendar Constellations, Star Clock, and Reasons for the Seasons. Nassau Chicken BBQ
The annual Nassau Beatification Committee Chicken BBQ will take place Saturday, July 27 at the new Bicentennial Pavilion at the Village Commons Park on John Street. Extension offers “Cooking In The Garden”
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Rensselaer County will present the program “Cooking In The Garden” on Tuesday, July 30, from 7 to 8 PM. Back by popular demand! What can you do with summer’s gorgeous produce? Using vegetables grown on-site, Master Gardeners will prepare a variety of fresh and healthy dishes to share with the audience. Red Cross urges donors to fill Missing Types to prevent summer blood shortage

A few missing letters may not seem like a big deal in a sentence, but for patients who need A, B, O and AB blood types, these missing letters mean life. The Red Cross urges donors of all blood types to give now to help prevent delays in medical care this summer.

Nassau Village Historian hosting local history presentations
Nassau Village Historian Kurt Vincent will be hosting three “encore performances” of local history presentations at The Nassau Free Library in July and August. Beat the heat in the cool Community Room as the illustrated slideshow “Nassau at 200” traces this history and development of Nassau Village and the surrounding areas in our bicentennial year. On Tuesday, July 30, at 6:30 pm, “Trolleys Across the Hudson” will trace how Southern Rensselaer County once was home to the first intermodal light rail system in America. Through period photos, personal recollections and even a few sound effects, take a ride on the trolley from downtown Albany all the way to beautiful Nassau. This show was first presented at the 2018 Nassau Local History Fair. All presentations are free. The Library is located at 18 Church Street (US Route 20) in Nassau Village.

She will also cover strategies for locating record repositories, and illustrate how original records can help genealogists get past those notorious “brick walls.”
Ms. Graziano holds a MLS from Queens College, with a certificate in Archives and Records Management, and was fortunate to land the job of Archivist with Westchester County.

The subject will be cannon at the Battle of Bennington. Visitors will meet near the upper parking area and enjoy an open fire and refreshments.
Tie-dyeing Returns to the Village of Nassau
It’s that time of year again! The Village of Nassau Youth Committee is pleased to announce the 7th annual tie-dyeing workshops at the Village Commons, John Street on Thursday, August 1st. Learn the art of tie-dyeing while listening to “groovy” music from the 1960’s. Open to children of all ages, these workshops will start promptly at 6pm—rain or shine—and last approximately one hour. Children must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or older.
Participants need to bring one clean white or very light-colored T-shirt. Tie-dyeing can be messy so an apron to protect your clothes is recommended. Stephentown Historical Society to Host Community Tag Sale July 27, 2019
The Stephentown Community Tag Sale will be Saturday, July 27. The Stephentown Historical Society is hosting the tag sale from 9 to 3 at Gardner’s Field next to the coffee and ice cream shop, 15879 Route 22 in Stephentown, NY. Rain date is Sunday, July 28.
Selling spaces will be available for individuals or organizations for only $20.00. There is lots of space and lots of customers. Bring your own tables, chairs, shade, and any other needed equipment. Vendors should not arrive before 8:00 a.m. on the day of the sale.
The Historical Society tent needs your items to sell. Bring any donations of goods to benefit the historical society at the start of the sale or to the Heritage Center at 4 Staples Road the preceding Fridays from 1 to 4. Small appliances should be in working order. Sail the Scenic Rensselaer Hudson River Shoreline-July 27
A Benefit Event for Rensselaer Land Trust & Hudson River Sloop Clearwater
Connect to our beautiful Hudson River and join the Rensselaer Land Trust on Saturday, July 27 for a sail aboard an authentic working tall ship – the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater. This three-hour sail on the scenic Hudson River will include dockside orientation before departure, Clearwater’s history, wildlife observation and education. Refreshments available at the dock after the morning sail and before the afternoon sail.
Clearwater is a 106 foot long wooden sailboat, with one 108 foot tall mast. In the 1800’s such boats were a common sight on the Hudson and Long Island Sound; now, ships like Clearwater are a rare sight.
Rensselaer Land Trust is an accredited, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, with a mission to conserve the open spaces, watersheds and natural habitats across Rensselaer County for the benefit of our communities and future generations.

Avoiding Scams Presentation and Drug Take Back
Rensselaer County’s Hoosick Falls Senior Center at 69 Church Street, Hoosick Falls, will host Jeff Russo with the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Department to speak on How To Avoid Scams on Tuesday, July 30th at 12:45. As scams today have become smarter and more sophisticated, we need to always be on the alert. While the risk of becoming a victim of scams is high for everyone, the rate of seniors that fall victim is staggering. A scam could leave you with a depleted bank account. All residents 60 and over should plan to attend this free presentation to learn why seniors are targeted, preventative steps to avoid falling for a scam, and what to do if you think you have fallen victim. The Sheriff’s Dept. will also collect any unused prescription drugs that need to be disposed. Plan to come early for a nutritious lunch (Chicken Pattie Parmesan) for a suggested $3 donation. South Troy Pop Warner will be holding registrations for all interested players and cheerleaders throughout the Troy City School District, as well as Gardner Dickenson, Troy Prep, St. Jude’s and Sacred Heart Schools for the 2019 Pop Warner Season: Registrations will be held on July 25th and 26th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the South Troy Pop Warner building, Thompson Street in Troy (Geer Field), and also July 27th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
NOTE: All interested players and cheerleaders must be between the ages of 5 and 12. (You must turn 5 on or before July 31st.) Our organization consist of the following teams: Flag (5, 6 & 7 year olds); Mitey Mites, Jr. Pee Wee and Pee Wee.
