Comic Mime Comes to the North Chatham Free Library

Family Movie Night

Veterans Hall Open House – Saturday, July 20, 2019 10:00-2:00
Veterans Hall Honors All Veterans Past and Present. This building is located on the Schaghticoke Fairgrounds and is comprised of a group of volunteers who feel passionate about thanking our veterans. Many have visited Veterans Hall during the fair or have come to an Open House to pay tribute to our veterans and say thank you. Everyone knows and loves a veteran and many come to share that connection. Some come to see a picture, a clipping or perhaps an item donated by family or a friend of a veteran that served our country. In addition we are compiling a list of veteran’s names from Rensselaer, Saratoga, Albany, Washington, and surrounding counties. We can use your help in this endeavor. This will be an ongoing objective for years to come. Getting your veteran’s name on the list is free, easy and a good way to ensure his/her service will be remembered. A few missing letters may not seem like a big deal in a sentence, but for patients who need A, B, O and AB blood types, these missing letters mean life. The Red Cross urges donors of all blood types to give now to help prevent delays in medical care this summer.

Finding Your Roots: Essential Steps for the DNA Newcomer

If you are a newcomer to the DNA testing world, or have had your results for awhile but just feel lost, this program is for you! Professional genealogist Lisa Dougherty will outline basic steps to help you understand your ethnicity estimates, make sense of your matches, then utilize them to discover more about your family history. This program is designed to bring you from confusion to comprehension in 5 steps!
Lisa Dougherty has been active in tracing the history of her own family and many others for over 20 years. She became interested in genealogy as a teenager when her father began investigating the origins of his Irish great grandparents. A former volunteer at the National Archives in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, she now devotes her time to lecturing around the area on family history and assisting family researchers monthly at four capital region area libraries, including the Irish-American Heritage Museum in Albany, where she is the genealogist-in-residence. She is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, as well as several other area genealogical groups. A subscriber to Ancestry.com for over 15 years, she specializes in online research and the effective use of websites to investigate family history.

The Book Nook at Transfiguration Parish on Hillview Drive in Speigletown is open on July 20 from 9:00 am until noon. The Grafton Summer Festival is Here
Come join us for a fun day of food, crafts and music! The Grafton Summer Festival will take place Saturday, July 20 from 8am-4pm in the Town Park. The Town Park is located on Route 2 in the center of town. The Festival will start with a Buffet Breakfast at the Everett Wager Senior Services Center from 8-10:30am. Tickets are $8 for adults, $7 for seniors and $4 for children 10 and under. Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance by calling 518-279-3413. The Senior Center will also host an Open House from 8am-3pm for anyone interested in learning more about the facility and the programs it offers.

At Grafton Lakes State Park July 20th
(Grafton, NY) Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a wildlife biologist? On Saturday, July 20th, Grafton Lakes State Park along with Dyken Pond Environmental Center and Poestenkill Community Forest will be hosting a Rensselaer Plateau wide bioblitz. The park invites volunteers to sample for as many different types of life as we can find throughout the day. We’ll look for birds, mammals, wildflowers, mushrooms, reptiles, insects, fish– all the nature we can find. People of all ages and skill levels are invited. All you need is your curiosity, something to take pictures with, and plenty of enthusiasm! We’ll be joined by local experts and others who know the area well. Together we’ll chronicle as much life as we can, help conservation efforts, and have some fun! More details to come. Kiwanis Clubs Of The Van Rensselaer Division Benefit Scramble Golf Outing
The Van Rensselaer Division of Kiwanis is comprised of the clubs in: Castleton/Schodack, East Greenbush, Hoosick Falls, Rensselaer, Sand Lake, and Troy. Kiwanis is a community organization of volunteers dedicated to providing assistance and support through community service projects and fund raising activities to those in need, especially children.
On Saturday July 20th 2019, The Kiwanis Clubs of Rensselaer County are hosting a Golf Outing (Scramble-Best Ball format) at the Pheasant Hollow Golf Course at 2670 Phillips Road, Castleton, N.Y. 12033.
A day of fun, golf and prizes will begin at 8:00 A.M. with sign-in and optional putting contest followed by a 9:00A.M Shot-gun start and nine holes of golf w/cart – beverages included on the course. At 1:00P.M. – Steak Lunch will be served at Samson’s Bar and Restaurant located at 1736 Rt. 9, Castleton, NY – all included for $65.00 per golfer.

Henrietta, joining a group of women in the early 1900s at Harvard University’s Observatory who are “human computers”, is motivated by a belief that there are galaxies beyond our own — a belief that defies the consensus among her male superiors. Hoosick Falls Summer Concert Series
On Saturday, July 20th. It’s Blues for Breakfast in the Hoosick Falls Summer Concert Series.
Last year they filled Wood Park.
Blues for Breakfast is the brainchild of former Hoosick Falls resident Mr. Charlie Frazier, Sensing the Champlain Valley’s potential interest in a no-nonsense, partying, houserockin’ blues-rock band, in June of 1991 he pulled together a group of the Burlington-area musicians to perform at Vermont’s annual Discover Jazz Festival Blues Jam.
Buoyed by the response, they decided to ride the wave and not let a good thing slip away. The band’s reputation has been growing ever since, More than a decade later, they’re still going strong-packing dancers into clubs across northern Vermont, New York and New Hampshire.
They’ve headlined concerts for Burlington’s First Night celebration, played the annual Lake Champlain Blues Cruises, for the Burlington Mayor’s Arts Council in Battery Park, rocked out the Church Street Marketplace, the Plattsburgh Mayor’s Cup and the Saranac Lake Chamber of Commerce.The band’s first release, “Fries & Gravy,” was recorded live at Nectar’s, and quickly sold out its 1,000 copy pressing. They’ve also donated tracks to the first three Best of The Green Mountain Blues compilations, put together by Mr. Charlie, to benefit the kids at Camp Ta-Kum-Ta, a Colchester, Vt.,camp for child cancer patients.

The concerts begin run from 4 to 8 p.m. in Wood Park in Hoosick Falls. Free and open to the public.
