Sip and Swirl canvas painting
Rensselaer County’s Hoosick Falls Senior Center at 69 Church Street, Hoosick Falls, will host a Sip and Swirl on Tuesday, May 7th, at 10:00. There will be step by step instructions to help you with your canvas painting and to bring out your artistic talent. You must call ahead to sign up. There will be a $5 charge to cover the cost of materials. Please plan to join us for a nutritious lunch (Baked Ham Steak) at noon with birthday cake to follow. Columbia Nominated for Best High School Musical
Ethan Ploss ’19 performing in Columbia High School’s production of “Big Fish.”
Columbia High School received two nominations, including Best Musical, from the 2019 High School Musical Theatre Awards for its performance of “Big Fish.” The winners will be announced at an awards show held at Proctors in Schenectady on May 11. Columbia was also nominated for Best Technical Execution. Congratulations to the cast and crew!

Capital Community Voices Presents Spring Concert
EAST GREENBUSH, NY – Capital Community Voices, directed by Julie Panke, will present “At the Hop” on Saturday, May 11th, at 7:30 pm at Genet Elementary School, Route 4, East Greenbush, NY.
Hits from the 1950’s and early 1960’s will include “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” “Rock Around the Clock,” “Fly Me to the Moon,” and “The Shadow of Your Smile.” The chorus will also sing a medley of songs from “Jersey Boys” and themes from early James Bond movies.
The chorus will be accompanied by pianist Joanna Towse, bassist Randy Jennings, guitarist Doug Esmond, and percussionist James Iacketta.
A reception will follow the concert.

A Call to Artists for a Summer Juried Art Show – “Turn, Turn, Turn”
Artists of all media are invited to submit up to two works for a juried art show titled, Turn! Turn! Turn! at Sand Lake Center for the Arts. The artwork will be based on the song Turn! Turn! Turn! by Pete Seeger to honor him on the anniversary of his 100th Birthday. The exhibition opens on July 1, 2019 and ends August 31, 2019. Twenty pieces will be selected with first, second, third, and people’s choice cash awards ($300., $200., $100., and $100.) will be given. The juror for this show is Jason Kates van Staveren. He is a Capital Region Artist and Lecturer of Photography, Digital Imaging and Animation at Hudson Valley Community College and the University at Albany, who’s life has been steeped in folk music and who’s art practice embraces its lyrical and narrative traditions. Schenectady Civic Players to present God of Carnage

Music Event to Benefit Local Charity
The Southern Rensselaer County Rotary Club is hosting a benefit concert Thurs., May 9th, 6:30 pm, at Quigley’s Restaurant, 593 Columbia Turnpike, East Greenbush.
Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Oley Foundation, a national independent nonprofit that provides education, advocacy, and networking opportunities to people living on home IV nutrition and/or tube feeding.
The benefit will feature music from a new CD titled, “One Step Forward,” produced by guitarist/singer Michael Francis McCarthy and lyricist Phil Kellerman. Also featured will be flutist Deb Reep MacLeod of Albany, NY, playing on two of six songs.
McCarthy’s music blends Delta blues, bluegrass, old country, folk and rock.
Opening the show will be international independent music artist Mario Sevayega, playing five original songs. His music weaves many genres of music including rock, reggae, jazz, disco and pop.

Highlight Acting Troupe presents Steel Magnolias–Truvy’s beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are “anybody” come to have their hair done. Helped by her eager new assistant, Annelle, the outspoken, Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town’s rich curmudgeon, Ouiser; an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee; and the local social leader, M’Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby, is about to marry a “good ole boy.”
Set in the 1980’s; the special friendships make the story truly touching and marvelously good-humored company in good times and bad. Nassau Community Art Show
The Town of Nassau Historic Preservation Committee will host an art show featuring local artists on Saturday, May 4th, from 3–7 pm at the Nassau Veteran’s Association (formerly Chandler-Young VFW Post) on Lyons Lake Road, Nassau.
The show will be themed “Peace Out” in tribute to the 50th anniversary of the Woodstock Music Festival during the “Summer of Love” in 1969. The work of over a dozen local artists will be on display with several in attendance to demonstrate their techniques and answer questions. Light refreshments will be available, and proceeds will benefit the work of the Committee to draw attention to Nassau’s many historic properties and heritage.
Village of Nassau Bicentennial Open Mic
Calling all musicians, poets, raconteurs, comedians and more (age 12 and up).
Join us for The Village of Nassau Bicentennial Open Mic on Saturday, May 18, 2019, from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Presented by the Nassau Free Library, the gazebo at the Village Commons Park on John St. will be the site of an afternoon of music and fun.
Participants may perform up to 15 minutes, depending on the length of the wait list. We ask that the performance material be appropriate for a family-friendly setting. Microphones and a PA will be provided. Acoustic instruments are ideal, but electric instruments with amplifiers may be used at appropriate volume levels. (To be determined by the host.) Sign up begins at 1:00 PM at the gazebo (or at the rain site).
Admission is free and guests are invited to bring a lawn chair or blanket and a picnic lunch to settle in for an entertaining spring afternoon. This fundraiser to benefit the Albany Symphony Orchestra will be open from April 30, 2019-May 19, 2019. The house, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is located at 6030 Nott Road off Route 155 in Guilderland. It has been home to the Nott and Veeder families and has hosted many historic figures. Local designers will decorate each of the rooms with period motifs.
