The Beatles Are Coming! The Beatles Are Coming!

Well, almost The Beatles that is. The incomparable “Hey Jude Beatles Experience Tribute Band” will be performing, for one night only, at the Averill Park High School Auditorium, on April 13th. This fantastic live concert group, Hey Jude, is the headliner of this major fundraiser to support the FIGHT AGAINST DRUG ADDICTION and the OPIOD EPIDEMIC in our community. The Kiwanis Club of Sand Lake & The Nopiates Committee are proudly co-hosting this evening of musical entertainment that includes a musical prelude by members of the Averill Park H.S. Music Program.

Work by Fine Arts Students Showcased in Two, Year-end Exhibits at HVCC

Hudson Valley Community College’s Department of Fine Arts, Theatre Arts and Digital Media announces two, year-end student exhibitions – the Annual Juried Fine Arts Student Exhibition and the Advanced Study in Drawing and Painting Exhibition – which will be on view in the college’s Teaching Gallery from April 5 through April 13.

An opening reception and awards ceremony will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 5 in the Teaching Gallery, located on the ground floor of the Administration Building on the Troy campus. In addition to department awards, four juried awards underwritten by Arlene’s Artist Materials in Albany will be announced. The reception and exhibitions are open to the public, free of charge. Gallery hours are 10-4 Tuesday, Thursday, Friday; 1-7 Wednesday; noon-4 Saturday, and closed Sunday and Monday.

The juried exhibition includes works by students pursuing an Associate in Science degree in Fine Arts, who submit work from the current and past two semesters. Guest juror is Scott Foster, associate professor of Studio Art and chairman of the Creative Arts Department at Siena College. A painter and draughtsman, Foster has exhibited nationally and created commissioned works for the St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish of Schenectady, the Musicians of Ma’alwyck, and the Terra Nova Church of Troy, among others.

Advanced Study in Drawing and Painting is two semesters of guided study for students who have completed foundation art courses and wish to pursue their own body of work. Jennie Buckley, Katriona Howell, Derek Limani, Andrea Lowry, Mikayla M., John McCabe, Hannah Meacham, @_collin_moore, Renee M Piazza, Jan Samuel Redman, Makayla Sink-Fagan and Hannah Marie Tremblay are featured in the exhibit, titled “Within a Saturated Environment.”

Mark your calendars!  Vanguard Designer Showhouse Is Back!

This fundraiser to benefit the Albany Symphony Orchestra will be open from April 30, 2019-May 19, 2019.  The house, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is located at 6030 Nott Road off Route 155 in Guilderland.  It has been home to the Nott and Veeder families and has hosted many historic figures. Two Area Music Icons are teaming up to perform at the Sand Lake Center for the Arts on April 13th at 8pm.

Kevin McKrell and Brian Melick are bringing 3 decades of musical experience to the center with their mix of Irish/Celtic/Folk/Pop. This combination can’t be anything short of spectacular.

Kevin was just chosen as the first inductee of the Capital Region Thomas Edison Music Awards Hall of Fame where he will be receiving the Eddies Artistic Lifetime Achievement Award for pioneering Celtic music in the capital region. Brian Melick the other half of this outstanding duo also known as “Uduboy” brings his master percussionist sounds to this wonderful mix of talent that will leave you feeling the magic and motion of this great concert for days after!  Tickets are $18 for adults, $10 under the age of 18.
