WGAWB Tournament results

On Wednesday, May 22, the Women’s Golf Association at Winding Brook held a “Three Blind Mice” Tournament. With a net score of 53, Pam Rybka captured first place. In second place with a net 62 was Margaret Surpitski. Paula Sancomb was third with a net 63.

 

Burden Lake CC Wednesday Ladies League

Here are the Burden Lake Country Club Wednesday Ladies League results from the last two weeks of play.

Week 3: Team Hammond (10pts) beat Team Bryce (8pts) and Team DiIorio (9.5pts) beat Team Squazzo (8.5pts). Low net scores were Jen DiIorio (35), Jane Wimmer (38), Myra Johnson (39).

Week 4: Team Bryce (13.5pts) beat Team DiIorio (4.5pts) and Team Squazzo (11.5pts) beat Team Hammond (6.5pts). Low net scores were Jen DiIorio (35), Jane Wimmer (38) and Chris Brown (38).

League Standings after 4 weeks: Team DiIorio (38pts); Team Squazzo (37.5pts); Team Bryce (34.5pts); Team Hammond (34pts).

 

 

Albany Empire, Hannaford Supermarkets to Host Food Drive

The Albany Empire and Hannaford Supermarkets will partner to host a food drive on Saturday, June 1, at the Empire’s 3:30 p.m. home game at the Times Union Center against the Washington Valor.  All donations towards the food drive will benefit the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York.

Any fan who brings three or more non-perishable food items to the Hannaford table on the concourse at this Empire game will be granted two ticket vouchers good for any of the Empire’s remaining 2019 regular season home games.  Hannaford’s table will be located outside of sections 104-105 on the main concourse of the Times Union Center and will be available immediately after doors open.  Limit two ticket vouchers per fan.  Ticket vouchers must be redeemed at the Times Union Center box office prior to the Empire home game chosen by the fan. Hugs From Henry Inc. golf fundraiser

Hugs From Henry Inc. will be holding their golf fundraiser once again at the Van Patten Golf Club at 924 Main St., Clifton Park, NY 12065 on Mon., June 17th. Registration will start at 8 am with a 9 am shot gun start (18 holes). At 1 pm, we will have a buffet lunch. Donations are $100 per golfer (for a team of 4) which covers green fees, cart and buffet lunch. We will present awards, prizes and will have raffles. We are also looking for people or businesses to sponsor a hole for a $100 donation. 100% of all proceeds go to the health and welfare of homeless animals and our volunteers and staff are never paid for the work they do. The Freihofer’s® Run for Women to Host Health & Fitness Expo

ALBANY, N.Y.— Capital Region residents are invited to get their summer off to a healthy start by attending the Freihofer’s Run for Women’s Health & Fitness Expo, a companion event to the 41st Freihofer’s Run for Women.

The free, two-day event, which is open to the general public, will be held Thursday, May 30, from 4-8 p.m.; and Friday, May 31, from noon to 7 p.m. at The Armory at Sage College of Albany on New Scotland Avenue.

“The Freihofer’s Run for Women Health and Fitness Expo showcases the best in health and fitness in the Capital Region,” said Freihofer’s Run for Women Co-director Kristen Hislop. “It highlights fitness facilities, health and wellness companies, health and fitness activities, nutrition and healthy eating, fitness apparel and gear, plus clinics on self-defense, mental health and running, and preparing yourself to run injury free. In addition, the Expo is the site for last chance registration for the Freihofer’s Run for Women, Junior 3K and Kids’ Runs. Attendees can also pick up their race numbers, Freihofer’s bread and, of course, delicious Freihofer’s chocolate chip cookies!”

The first 100 through the door each day will receive an Athleta bag. There will be raffles that are free to enter. Many booths will be doing additional giveaways.

Grafton Fitness Opportunities

Rensselaer County’s Everett Wagar Senior Center, 2 Roxborough Road, Grafton, has several opportunities to keep our residents 60 and older in shape. Chair Yoga is offered 3 times a week at no charge. This is a low-impact workout for the body and mind. Aerobic Swimming is available on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at the Bennington Rec Center with transportation. Water aerobics offers a resistance and buoyancy that cannot be experienced on ground. The center has a small exercise room with a treadmill and stationary bikes. Regular exercise reduces the risk of injury, decreased symptoms of depression, and improves mobility. Regular exercise can lower blood pressure, strengthen muscles, correct body posture, relieve pain and promotes weight loss. Residents 60 and older are encouraged to get into a good exercise routine. The Town of East Greenbush Senior Domino Group meets each Wednesday from 12-3 PM in the Town Hall Community Room.

Town of East Greenbush Adult Bocce

Bocce players meet in Onderdonk Park on Hampton Avenue at 5:45 PM each Thursday evening throughout the Spring and Summer.

The group is currently seeking more players.  This is not a competitive league and it is a lot of fun with great people!  Stop by any Thursday to see what’s it all about.

Volunteers Needed for National Trails Day at Grafton Lakes State Park

National Trails Day is the perfect opportunity to help clean up local parks. On Saturday, June 1st, Grafton Lakes State Park will be hosting the 26th Annual National Trails Day – the nation’s annual celebration of trails. The park invites volunteers of all ages to help clean up and improve trails on Saturday morning and indulge in the trail activities they enjoy most in the afternoon.

Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the park’s new Welcome Center; refreshments and snacks will be available. Cleanup and improvement of the trail system will take place between 9:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. and will be followed by a complimentary barbecue picnic and raffle for all volunteers. After the barbecue, participants are encouraged to enjoy the trails and park. Reservations must be made in advance for the barbecue by calling the Grafton Lakes State Park Office, or emailing at matthew.west@nullparks.ny.gov, no later than May 29th, 2019.

A Burden Lake Association Golf Outing Fundraiser will be held on Sat., June 8th, at the Burden Lake Country Club, 162 Totem Lodge Rd., Averill Park. All proceeds will go toward the Water Quality Fund.

9-9:30 am Check in and continental breakfast.
10 am shotgun start.
Light lunch when golfing is complete.

$110 per player/$400 per foursome…scramble format.

Town of East Greenbush Senior Chair Yoga

Chair Yoga will continue at 11 AM on Wednesdays in the East Greenbush Town Hall Community Room through the end of June and then break for the summer months.  If you would like to join, give us a call at 518-477-4194 or walk ins are welcome.

Instructor: Judi England, RN, licensed massage therapist, and professionally certified Kripalu yoga instructor. Judi has offered programs in wellness, yoga, meditation, and stress management for over 25 years throughout the Capital Region. She currently serves as Senior Health Education Coordinator for Jewish Family Services of Northeastern New York, and as an Independent Health Educator for businesses and organizations. Her blog “Holistic Health” appeared in the Times Union for ten years.

Reconnect the body, mind and spirit through gentle movements, breathwork and deep relaxation.  We’ll work on flexibility, balance and core strength with options to build or modify your practice. All movements will be done seated or standing with a chair for support.  All are welcome to enjoy the benefits of yoga – regardless of physical ability or limitations.

Rensselaer Youth Outdoors Forest Conservation Corps Teen Sumer Program

Rensselaer County, NY: Rensselaer Youth Outdoors is announcing an environmental education summer program for teenagers, aged 14-16. The program will combine recreation and education experiences while teens work on valuable conservation projects protecting Rensselaer county’s parks, waters and natural resources.

The four-week program will run weekdays from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm, July 22 to August 16, with space for 10 teens each week.

Locations:

Week 1: July 22-July 26 – Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center

Week 2: July 29-August 2 – Grafton Lakes State Park

Week 3: August 5-August 9 – Poestenkill Community Forest

Week 4: August 12-August 16 – Albert Family Community Forest

Participants who complete a full week of the program will receive a certificate and a $100 stipend at the end of the week.

Search and Rescue Volunteers Needed

The Tri-State Emergency Team is recruiting volunteers to provide wildland and underwater searches within a 100-mile radius of Waterford, NY.  This includes all aspects of field and underwater search.  The Tri-State Emergency Team responds when requested by NYS Forest Rangers and other Police Agencies throughout New York State, Western Vermont and Massachesettes.

We are looking for certified scuba divers, experienced boat handlers, and people who enjoy hiking and the outdoors in general who wish to help people in need.   The team will provide training and complete support as needed.  Our headquarters is located in Waterford.  Applicants need not live in Waterford to volunteer.
