Bird Survey in North Greenbush Grasslands

The public is invited to a field study of birds on Saturday, June 25 (8-10 am). The study will take place in the southeast North Greenbush Grasslands, in North Greenbush, Rensselaer County. This area includes unexplored scattered patches of hayfield, pastureland, and old field. They were mapped remotely as part of a lowland grassland complex for the Rensselaer County Conservation Plan as regionally-important habitat for grassland birds, such as bobolink and meadowlark. We will evaluate the site for any field evidence of breeding grassland birds via a series of several roadside stops, each about 5 to 10 minutes long. Participants are meeting at the North Greenbush Park & Ride on the west side of US Route 4, just southof NY Route 43, from where we will carpool into 2 or 3 cars. Contact: David Hunt 518 279-4124.

Save the date for an Aug 12 aquatic survey of Snyders Lake, North Greenbush, Rensselaer County. Snyders Lake is an unexplored eutrophic lake. We plan to develop an initial list of aquatic plants and animals observed from kayaking and/or snorkeling. Details will be forthcoming. Contact: Tom Phillips 518 956-2767
