RENSELAER COUNTY – The Rensselaer County Senior Center needs your help. Every year at Christmas time we bring afghans,lap robes and other crocheted items to the nursing home in Christmas bags w/ cards to those that didn’t have family or friends. Because of the pandemic we are very behind in Santa’s work. We need your donations and little elves to make the needed afghans and lap robes,slippers,hats,shawls,scarves anything that would put a smile on a precious seniors face. RENSSELAER COUNTY – We can all agree times have been very difficult recently. On March 13th All senior centers in Rensselaer County were closed with safety in mind. As time went on seniors continued to call wondering when the center would open. They were starved for social stimulation and all I could say was “when it is safe”.
We received daily briefings from our County Executive Steve McLaughlin who is committed to the safety of all county residents with emphasis on our seniors. In July and August as the state began to cautiously reopen we were trying to offer social stimulation so needed by our seniors.
With the help of Executive Steve McLaughlin, Rensselaer Mayor Mike Stammel, Health Dept. Director Mary Fran Wachunas, Commissioner of Aging Carol Rosbozom and County Director of Tourism Vito Ciccarelli we were able to offer our senior community outdoor concerts in our Riverfront Park in Rensselaer. Meeting all criteria of social distancing we had a very successful series.

Poestenkill Seniors
POESTENKILL – Our weekly meetings are held every Tuesday at 1:00 in the afternoon at the Sullivan Jones Post in Poestenkill. All seniors are welcome. We have catered lunches, pizza, clam steams, fish fries and luncheons that are held at various restaurants and best of all bus trips to casinos, theaters and points of interest.
Informational talks on senior safety and health are given from time to time. Dues are $15.00 a year. Coffee and refreshments are served after the meeting followed by Bingo and cards. Come join the fun and a afternoon out. The hall is handicapped accessible with sufficient parking. Hope to see you there.

Grab and Go Lunches Available
RENSSELAER – The Rensselaer County Senior Senior Center are offering nutritious meals Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Pickup between 12 noon and 12:30. Please call the day before to order your lunch and enjoy a homemade hot meal three times a week must be 60 years or older to participate in this great program call 518-463-2166 for more information. RENSSELAER – We, at the Rensselaer County Rensselaer Senior Center, thank you so much for responding to our request for spring and summer gently used clothing we are still accepting donations and are still in need of shoes pocketbooks and costume jewelry. For those of you who have thought of cleaning your closets but haven’t gotten around to it you still have time. we are also accepting fall and winter clothing as well.
